Kate Gosselin Gives Helpful Eating Tips For Your Kids
Now that Kate Plus 8 has come and gone, the only avenue for Kate Gosselin to let her voice be heard is through her new website KatePlusMy8. And it’s through this blog that Kate is giving healthy eating habit tips for you to use on your children!
Kate goes through give easy steps that will have your kids on a healthy pattern in no time. But as she says, it takes time and patience to get a routine like this down pat!
Here are five steps to get your kids to eat healthy:
1. I have always focused on nutrition– healthy and organic
eating and have taught my kids along the way. We celebrate flavor and
healthy choices in our house. Each meal consists of all food groups in
different and exciting presentations!
2. I started to feed as much variety to each of them as possible
just as soon as they were old enough to have a spoon in their mouths!
If they didn’t like a particular food, I continued feeding it until
they changed their minds! I still do that today! If the majority
doesn’t like a meal, I’ll sneak it in again and sometimes the reaction
is different the second or third time I make something new! Amazing!
3. I ask the kids what they are hungry for and try to honor
those dinner choices that week. If, for the most part, you are cooking
what “the troops” are hungry for, they are more likely to eat happily!
4. I stand firm when whiners take over the dinner table! No “back
up” meals are offered because I am NOT a restaurant, although, often
times I swear I work in one!
I am often heard saying, “what’s for dinner is in front of you, if you
don’t like it, no dessert and breakfast is the next meal!” [thanks, Mom! I still hear your voice when I say that!]
5. I focus on waste. If you waste not, you want not and I do not
tolerate waste in any area, so I often discuss kids (whom we have met!) who don’t have enough to eat in hopes that that message will
translate to my kids!
I’ll allow “food trading” sometimes if kids don’t like everything on
their plates– just so it’s not wasted! :)

Luci commented on Sep 21 11 at 6:55 pmKate says she focuses on nutrition – healthy and “organic.” I am a registered diettiatn so let’s explore this concept. “Organic” refers to the way farmers grow and processess agricultural products. The label “Organic” offers no guarantee of eating well. “Organic” is not a magic cure all. When buying “organic” are you paying extra for little benefit?
Facts;
1. Researchers conclude that organically and conventionally produced food stuffs are comparable in nutrient content.,
2. Most pesticide or chemical residues on most non organic products do not exceed government safety threshholds. Some products, peaches, apples, sweet bell peppers, strawberries, spinach, and potatoes may be at higher levels, but are within safety standards.
3. Organic foods cost more.
4. Organic foods spoil faster.
5. Not eating fruits and vegetables is more toxic nutritionally than eating non organic fruits and vegetables, as a diet higher in fruits and vegetables lowers the risk of cancer and heart disaease. These studies were done using conventional nonorganic fruits and vegetables.
6. Just because a product says it is “organic” or contains “organic” ingredients does not mean it is a healthier alternative. “Organic” products may be high in sugar, salt, fat, or calories. What is the point of organic potato chips? Junk food is junk food, organic or not.
7. A few suggestions for food safety and nutrition:
-Select a variety of foods from a variety of sources to reduce exposure to a single pesticide and to improve your nutritient intake.
-Wash and scrub all fruits and vegetables -”organic” and non organic.
-Peel fruits and vegetables to reduce pesticides and chemicals, although this causes the loss of some fiber and nutrients.
-Buy fruits and vegetables in season.
-Limit the consumption of processed foods, sweets, sugars, fats, carbohydrates, and sweetened beverages to improve nutrition.
-When possible cook at home and avoid fast foods and processed foods when eating out.One more comment “food trading” is not necessarily a desirable habit. This fosters the transmission of bacteria and viruses.

mary commented on Sep 23 11 at 10:46 amWow meal time must be so stressful at her house. Forcing a kid to eat something they do not like is wrong. Make them taste it if they don’t like it then thats it. Kate do you eat every food out there. Waste? How many times do one of kids do not finish a meal you save it and make them eat it again? You are a cruel woman. You also unfeed your kids. Are you goving them full sandwiches or still half ones. I see children in the future with eating disorders. Jucie-jucie is not organic

Christine Black commented on Sep 28 11 at 2:56 pmDo you really believe what Kate says? Really? Does she still touch every bit of food she puts before her kids? Half sandwiches? 4 grapes? And to think, hey, she is ALL alone in making lunch/dinner for a family! What a concept! What do most every moms do every day without the GREAT KATE to tell them how to plan and provide a menu dinner…..and what a liar about the organic….Jucie Juice? whatever. I find it amazing anyone with any sense takes her advice.
Leigh Ann commented on Oct 05 11 at 7:26 pmI don’t think she’s doing anything most moms aren’t doing. Most of us try to feed our families healthy food that they like and don’t play short-order cook. And as for “always” eating organic, what about those big boxes of Quaker instant oatmeal they used to buy at Sam’s and go through two a week. Not knocking the oatmeal, my kid eats it, too. How about “have tried to eat organic in recent years”. And, yes, what about the Juicy Juice?
