Red Hot Chili Peppers Love Being In The Dad Club
They can rock it out like teenagers but most of the members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers are also proud dads.
Anthony Kiedis, the frontman for the band, loves being a part of the “daddy club.”
“I love the club,” he said. “Good God, it’s a beautiful club. Who knew? You can’t know until you go. It’s wild.”
He described his three-year-old son, Everly Bear, as “a little boy who’s often mistaken for a girl because his hair is real long.”
Drummer Chad Smith has five kids – Manon, Justin, Ava, Cole and Beckett, all under the age of 14.
And bassist Michael ‘Flea’ Balzary has a five-year-old daughter Sunny Bebop and a 22-year-old daughter Clara who is a photographer.
“I love being a father and wanted to be a father long before I had any business being a father,” he told The Fuse before an LA concert.
“One could argue easily that I had no business being a father when I became a father at 25 … but I just love it. That kind of love, I have never experienced it before. That kind of unconditional, doing anything for a person, love.”
Only the band’s guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, doesn’t have kids but the band is putting the pressure on.
“I think people that have fear that, ‘Oh if I have a kid I won’t be able to do this and I won’t be able to do that.’ It’s kind of the opposite. It really gives you energy. It makes people better,” Kiedis said.
The band is on fire with their new album I’m With You.
