Viola Davis has announced she is adopting a baby!

The Help actress Viola Davis joins the rankings of Angelina Jolie, Sheryl Crow, and Barbara Walters among others as she announces the news that her and husband Julius Tennon are adopting a baby together.

We don’t have any children [together], but we’re about to adopt a baby,” Tennon toldĀ E! News atĀ The Help premiere in Beverly Hills Tuesday (August 9). Davis added, “Yes, we’re about to adopt a baby.”

Tony Award winner Davis, 45, said the adoption will happen “domestically.”

I definitely like that the adoption will be happening domestically. Too often celebrities glorify their adoptions from exotic destinations while there are thousands of children left without families here in America as well. I’m not downing the idea of adopting from foreign countries, but as a celebrity, you are a walking advertisement for the actions you make. It’s nice to see a different side of adoption – those done domestically.

How do you feel about adoption?

Interesting how whenever I hear or read someone saying that celebs should adopt domestically rather than internationally, the people complaining have not adopted ANYWHERE.

And exotic locations? You make it sound like these children are being housed in some luxury resort. Yes, Angelina for example ,should never have adopted Zahara she should have adopted domestically because our kids are best! Of course Zahara would be dead now as she was a very sick baby and was hospitalized as soon as she got to the US, but oh well, as long as it was a red, white, and blue baby given a home, that is the important thing.

Yes, celebs are a walking billboard for their actions;and when those actions include giving a needy child a home, then that is a positive thing regardless of where that child happened to be born.

Neither domestic adoptions nor international adoptions are better or worse, and it is disgusting that some in the media are trying to pit one side against the other.
