Gwyneth Paltrow Joins Social Networks, Tweets Photo Of Son Moses, Draws More Criticism
Most celebrity (and non-celebrity) moms regularly tweet and upload photos of their kids to Facebook. The good majority of moms on my own friends list post pics of their children along with parenting tips, products they like, and countless other insights into parenthood. When they do it, it’s helpful, but when some celebrity parents do it, they’re considered stuck up or elitist.
Gwyneth Paltrow is no stranger to being labeled a snob. Many feel that her innocent claims that she is a regular working mom are nothing but inflated conceit. Her recent cookbook includes lofty quotes and cooking plans that would never get past a typical, harried working mother. (How many of us use wood-burning stoves on a daily basis?) Maybe it’s because she gave her kids names like Moses and Apple which some find too eccentric. It seems most people hate her because she seems too perfect. Is celebrity-hating the last acceptable mommy war in today’s politically correct society?
So when Paltrow created a Twitter and Facebook account today, the skepticism began. She posted a video and a pic of her and her son, Moses. Her first tweet showed no signs of elitism or snobbery. It simply said “This is my first tweet.” along with a link to a video of her walking own a Manhattan street. In it she says “So, it’s me, I’m on Facebook and Twitter, but not right now. I’m walking down the street looking for a cab. See ya!”
Already she has been accused of not being real, but if you ask me, she is doing what typical working moms do every day: making connections through social networks and showing off her gorgeous child. Unlike typical working moms, however, she is gaining followers by the thousands each passing minute. In the span of a few short hours, she’s gained more than 50,000 followers on Twitter and 54,000 likes on Facebook, and counting.
Do you think Gwyneth Paltrow is a snob or an elitist mom? Is hating celebrity parents the last acceptable mommy battle in our PC society?

Coco commented on Jun 01 11 at 7:34 pmWho cares? Who is “real” online anyway? Famous/snobbish/elitist or not, mothers show off their kids all the time. And maybe she does cook on a wood stove…maybe not. In the grand scheme of things…does it affect your way of life? I highly doubt that. So just take celebrities with a grain of salt…laugh, chuckle, whatever and move on. Take a look at your own lives…worry about what you doing…or not doing.
DzinaHk commented on Jun 02 11 at 3:12 amI am a follower of GOOP. I luv reading her articles about her travels and the places she has been to. But if you google the rates of the hotels she lists down or (many of the) restaurants, you will realise that Ms Paltrow moves in an entirely different world from you and me. She moves in that rarefied world called the ‘millionaire’s club’. One typical example is her wood-burning stove. Who has the leisure and the budget to have a wood-burning stove installed in their backyard? So I believe that her audience is Oprah and her other friends who live within the same stratosphere as she does. Her hotel recommendations can set you back thousands of dollars a day, be warned!!
mary commented on Jun 06 11 at 7:15 pmI laugh every time I read anything about Gwyneth. She named her daughter Apple Blyth. Well there is a very well know disease that affects apple trees called Apple Blight. Just kind of funny. She once said that Americans are so boring and that the Brits make such more interesting dinner companions. Well, I say to Gwyneth, if you actually had some typical Americans as dinner guests you would see that they are quite interesting. When you spend all your time with pompous, arrogant, phony people as yourself, well, what is interesting about that?
