Bachelorette Has Single Parent Contestant This Season: Why Do Single Parents Go On The Show?
The new season of The Bachelorette premieres tonight, with 26-year-old Ashley Hebert, a dental student from Madawaska, Maine having her pick of 25 guys in the hopes of finding true love. Fans remember Ashley from Brad Womack’s season of The Bachelor, where he ultimately got engaged to single mom, Emily Maynard.
One of the contenders on Ashley’s season of The Bachelorette is a single dad. If you are into spoilers, you can read more about him here. It seems to be a trend that there are single parents cast on the show each season, leading me to wonder why they are choosing to go on the show and sacrifice time with their kids in order to fall in love.
Are these parents really looking for real love, or does their motivation lie more in the hopes of being on TV and gaining a few minutes of fame? It’s no secret that people who appear on The Bachelor or The Bachelorette often go on to bigger and better things. It definitely opens up a lot of doors, which may help single parents provide better lives for their kids.
Though I can’t imagine leaving my son for six weeks, there are definitely different sides to this argument. Perhaps if I were a single mother, I would think differently about it? I guess you really can’t judge a person’s motivation for doing something unless you are directly in their shoes or have gone through the exact same thing.
