Maria Shriver Hires Divorce Attorney: What Does This Mean for Kids?
Maria Shriver has hired Los Angeles divorce attorney Laura Wasser. Shriver, who has split from husband Arnold Schwarzenegger due to the former Governor’s love-child scandal.
Shriver, 55, is separated from the former governor, 63, who has admitted to fathering a child with the longtime housekeeper for the family.
Child psychologist Jennifer Hartstein says that the scandal and divorce will impact Arnold and Maria’s youngest child the most. The child expert predicts:
“We can assume Christopher is in the flow of becoming an adolescent and his whole idea of what a relationship is has been thrust into turmoil.”
Family divorce expert Claire N. Barnes, MA says the impact of parental infidelity is huge for the children. In an article on Huffington Post, Barnes lays out why an parental affair is so devastating to children.
“Children are entitled to be protected by their parents and not expected to unnecessarily share the burden of family secrets.”
