Rachel Zoe’s ‘Push Present’: A 10 Carat Diamond Ring!
Have you ever heard of a ‘push’ present? Also known as a “push gift” or “baby bauble”, a push present is a present that a new father gives a new mother when she gives birth to their child. And Rachel Zoe got one that would make moms across America green with envy!
Rachel Zoe and her husband Rodger Berman welcomed their son Skyler Morrison on March 23rd, just about 6 weeks ago. After the birth of their son, Berman wanted to get Rachel something special – and it’s a little over the top if you ask me!
Rachel’s “push present” was an almost 10 carat diamond ring designed by jeweler Neil Lane.
Lane tells PEOPLE: “Rodger wanted to surprise Rachel with something romantic — and huge. It was their first baby and she’s been working so hard that Rodger wanted to do something very special. Rachel was thrilled and hasn’t taken it off since!”
Seriously? What would something like that even cost? I think that it’s absolutely ridiculous to give such an extravagant gift, and a waste of money! Put the money into a college fund for the kid or something!
The ring really is beautiful. The 10 carat rock is adorned with smaller diamonds in a platinum setting. The rock itself is a cushion cut, which Lane says that Rachel has “wanted a cushion cut forever.” A cushion cut diamond is a mixed-cut diamond shaped like a square pillow.

I’ve never received a “push present”, but if I had, I would’ve been happy with a necklace with the baby’s initials or something. How do you feel about push presents? Have you ever received one?

For us non-celeb types, let the new mom choose the jewelry or gift and then let the husband put a personal touch by choosing the engraving or birthstone personalization. This way, mom gets the perfect gift she was (kinda) expecting, and yet its still a sentimental piece that can be a keepsake. Think about how cool it would be to receive your great grandmothers charm necklace with her children’s names and birth dates on it!
