Kara DioGuardi 200x300 Kara DioGuardi: Left American Idol to Start a Family Former American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi is getting ready to release a memoir called A Helluva High Note: Surviving Love, Life and American Idol.

Forty year-old DioGuardi is a well known singer-songwriter, record producer, music publisher, A&R executive, composer and TV personality! Her most recent notable accomplishment was when she sat as a judge on the hit FOX show American Idol for seasons 8 and 9.

One of the things DioGuardi discusses in the book is why she left American Idol: “I wanted a child, and there was no way I could get pregnant under the stress of eighteen-hour work days and live TV.”

“I had undergone three unsuccessful rounds of IVF during Season 9 [of American Idol].” DioGuardi has been married to teacher-turned-general contractor Mike McCuddy since July 2009. McCuddy has a teenage daughter, but the couple do not have any children together.

She said she left the show early because “my desire to be in control of my destiny was larger than my need to be a household name.”

A Helluva High Note hits bookshelves on April 26th.
