Martina McBride: 5 Reasons We Love This Mom of ‘Teenage Daughters’
Martina McBride performed her new single “Teenage Daughters” last night at the 46th annual Academy of Country Music Awards. The celebrity mom belted out her latest hit while while photos of her three daughters ran on the big screen behind her.
Martina McBride’s performance at the 2011 ACM Awards is causing quite a buzz with fans this morning online but Martina is one of the most popular stars in country music because of her enormous talent and her down-to-earth attitude. Here are a five things I love most about Martina McBride:
1. Martina stands up for what she believes in. McBride’s “Independence Day”, a song about domestic abuse, was rejected by many radio stations when it came out in 1993. Many radio stations objected to the song’s subject of a mother fighting back against abuse by burning the family home to the ground. But Martina not only stood by the song and the subject matter, she made a music video of the song which made “Independence Day” a huge hit.
2. Martina McBride was multimedia before it was hip. In the early 90s, “Independence Day” won “Video of the Year” by the Country Music Association Awards, and ever since then she has rarely released a single without a music video to accompany it. In addition, she was one of the first country artists to use social media to promote her music.
3.Martina McBride uses her fame to help others, especially in the area of domestic abuse. She is currently the spokeswoman for the National Domestic Violence Hotline as well as for the National Network to End Domestic Violence.
4. Martina is a Kansas girl. Martina McBride was born Martina Mariea Schiff in Sharon, Kansas, on July 29, 1966. She is a Kansas girl, which is about as country as you can get.
5. Martina McBride is one of the nicest celebrities ever. I was lucky enough to interview Martina McBride two years ago, which was a thrill for me because I’m a huge fan of her work. Our interview went way over the time scheduled because we were swapping working mom stories! My interview with Martina McBride was such a treat and she is one of the most down-to-earth celebrities I’ve ever interviewed.
“Teenage Daughters” became available on iTunes at the same day (March 29) that McBride’s daughter Emma turned 13. If you want to see Martina McBride’s performance at the ACM Awards, go here!
