Insidious movie poster The Reviews Are In For Insidious: What Are The Critics Saying? (WATCH TRAILER)The new horror movie Insidious hit theaters today, and so far, the reviews aren’t sounding like the movie is as scary as the previews on TV make it out to be.

Directed by James Wan, of the original gory/horror movie “Saw”, Insidious stars Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne. It tells the story of Josh and Renai Lambert – two parents forced to defend their comatose son Dalton from evil spirits who are trying to steal him away to take into a realm called “The Further.”

So just what are the critics saying about the newest horror thriller out there?

USA Today’s Claudia Puig says: “There’s not much that’s insidious, or subtle, here. A prolonged scene involving an unnerving high-pitched burglar alarm does get under our skin. But it’s far more annoying than frightening.”

NPR’s David Edelstein says: “I’m a sucker for those bumps in the night and flickering lights and simple, no-effects scenes like the one in which Byrne locks the front door, checks another room and returns to see that front door wide open…the splashy special effects reminiscent of Poltergeist and a feeling of deja vu: been-there-been-bombarded-by-that.”

Ron Frappier of Screen Rant says: “An unusual third act may turn off some viewers, but ‘Insidious’ – James Wan and Leigh Whannell’s love letter to classic horror – delivers some of the most effective and spine-tingling scares you’re ever going to see.”

So mixed reviews, as usual. Are you planning on seeing this thriller? If you still want to know more about the movie, you can watch the official Insidious trailer here.
