Robert Redford Brings Sundance To London!

Big time Hollywood legend Robert Redford is looking to bring an expansion of the Sundance Film Festival to London, England!

Redford’s famous independent film festival began in 1978 in Park City, Utah as an attempt to attract filmmakers to the remote state. Since then it has grown tremendously with the establishment of Sundance Institute, a non-profit that supports emerging artists, and the Sundance TV channel that features independent films.

The decision to add a second Sundance Festival in London is partially a response to recent cuts in UK’s funding of the arts, a budget-balancing tactic to which Redford is strongly opposed to in the States.

Redford says, “Look at the festival. It puts $70m into the local economy. You can’t, unless it is an ideological argument, classify the arts as a trivial pursuit.”

Do you think a London Sundance Film Festival is a good idea?
