Over the years American Idol has done a lot to raise awareness and funds to events happening around the world. Now the singing competition is stepping up to use its high profile to help raise money for relief for the recent Japan earthquake and tsunami.
At the start of tonight’s episode the three judges — Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler, and Randy Jackson — along with host Ryan Seacrest announced that the show would be donating the proceeds from the sale of downloads of tonight’s songs on iTunes to the ongoing relief efforts. Tomorrow night viewers will be able to donate via text message during the results show.
If the results of the previous Idol Give Back efforts which have raised an estimated $175 million dollars for charitable causes, we can expect a big announcement about the total raised during tomorrow’s results show. The songs will be up for grabs immediately after tonight’s show.
