NAACP Image Awards 2011: Complete List Of NAACP Awards Winners
The NAACP Image Awards 2011 took place yesterday evening in Los Angeles. The complete list of NAACP Awards winners is posted below.
The NAACP Awards created a lot of controversy this year for acknowledging artists whose lyrics are anything but squeaky clean. Some of the names that certain groups were concerned about included Kanye West, Jay-Z, P. Diddy, and Nicki Minaj. The Senior Pastor at the Mt. Ennon Baptist Church said, “While artists are free to produce their own art, it is not acceptable for public corporations and established civil right organizations to sanction the kinds of lyrics promoted by some of these artists. These are the wrong images for a civil rights organization to nominate and endorse.”
The NAACP is looking into the complaints, and NAACP President Joe Brown said, “I think the national office is going to review the policy of the nominees and the participants. Hopefully this will eliminate inviting those whose lyrics are considered disdainful.”
