El DeBarge Rehab: Will He Ever Overcome His Drug Addiction?

El DeBarge has put his comeback on hold and checked into rehab for substance abuse issues.
The R&B singer announced Monday that he would cancel his tour just days before it was set to kick off February 17th in Houston, Texas.
“I hate to disappoint my fans but it is necessary for me to take the time to work on me so that I may continue to share my music and my story with everyone,” he said.
DeBarge has talked openly about his problems with drug abuse for almost twenty-five years and has acknowledged his problems with the law in the past.
In 2001 he was arrested for cocaine possession and was given probation. In 2006 he was arrested again for possession of a controlled substance and was once again given probation.
In 2007, DeBarge was arrested in a domestic dispute and was held without bail but the charges were later dropped. Later that year he was arrested yet again and charged with cocaine possession and given probation again. However, he was once again arrested in 2008 for possession of crack and drug paraphernalia, breaking the terms of his probation. For this violation, he was immediately sentenced to two years in federal prison in California.
During this time, he realized would have to deal with his addiction. He attended classes, getting rehabilitation for his drug problems, began to attend religious services, and eventually proclaimed himself a born-again Christian. He was released from prison in October 2009.
DeBarge was in the midst of a huge comeback after putting his career on hold for 16 years. His new album, “Second Chance,” was released last November and he was just about to go on tour.
We hope he will finally conquer his addiction this time.
