Esperanza Spalding

The Grammy Awards left many scratching their heads.

Especially with the Best New Artist Grammy going to Esperanza Spalding. Who???

It was a huge upset for Justin Bieber and Drake who lost out to Spalding.

The 26-year-old jazz bassist who snatched the Best New Artist Grammy out of the hands of Justin Bieber and Drake, has been making headlines in the jazz world since before her 2006 debut solo album.

Did you read that?  2006!  It’s now 2011!  What makes her a “best new artist”???

Poor Justin Bieber – you could see how shocked he was.  Was it fair?

A classically trained jazz/chamber music fusion musician and singer, Spalding has been making headlines in the jazz world since before her 2006 debut solo album, “Junjo.”  Read more about her here.

So why recognize her now in the Best New Artist category?  This just doesn’t make any sense to me.

What do you think?
