Cram It In the Boot: Mini Super Bowl Commercial Inappropriate
A Super Bowl commercial has to stand out. These aren’t your ordinary commercials. You have actual Super Bowl commercial fans. Companies need to step out of the box and make a memorable commercial.
The problem comes when a commercial goes a little too far.
Did you see the Mini’s “Cram it in the boot” commercial?
With “cram it in the boot” being repeated over and over, with a good-looking model making shoving gestures in the mini’s “boot,” it seemed more than just a little dirty. I have to wonder if that is one of those commercials that we’ll never see on our televisions again after tonight: on youtube, sure.
What did you think of the “cram it in the boot” Super Bowl commercial?

Rachel commented on Feb 06 11 at 9:02 pmIt was better than the “throwing the baby” commercial from Home Away or the cussy commercial with Eminem from Brisk Iced Tea.
DJ commented on Feb 06 11 at 9:21 pmAwesome. If you can’t have a sense of humor, then don’t watch TV. Go grab yourself a National Geographic magazine or listen to NPR.
Tom commented on Feb 07 11 at 12:08 amIt was a brilliant commercial, we’re talking about it, right??
TR commented on Feb 07 11 at 11:59 amAgreed. It has people talking, both those who loved and those who didn’t. there’s also a 60 second version that plays better, I think. Can see it you youtube’s adblitz channel. I also thought Groupon’s spot was really good too, and it’s also taking a beating.
Terri commented on Feb 07 11 at 1:39 pmthis may be an awfully low bar to set but compared to about 80% of the other ads it was fine. we were watching with kids of all ages and were trying our best to “ride the remote”. we didn’t bat an eye at the mini one.
Here it is on YouTube. watched mini COuntryman ad again this morning I laughed at the same spots. not as clever as Mini stuff in the past but seems like they had to try and compete with SB type commercials. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDnVE58Z9VA
Sir Duke commented on Feb 09 11 at 1:04 pmIt was not the greatest commercial I have ever seen but I did laugh. Agree with Teri that it’s a low bar to set but tv ads and especially SB ads have gone off the deep end. the phrase “cram it in the boot” does not register as anything too horrible. ads like the Kim Kardasien one should be banned, IMHO.
As for whether or not the ad will help sell a Mini countryman? no clue. but they went for making a splash and i think it worked.
On Ice commented on Feb 14 11 at 2:18 pmMini countryman has just put up a massive billboard in new york city, near times square. even in that huge sea of ads it pops pretty well.
