The Fighter: Inspiring Tale of Redemption, Dysfunctional Family
The Fighter is a dramatic story of a dysfunctional family and an inspiring tale of redemption. The Fighter tells the story of a family, with a key member of the family struggling with drug addiction, and betrayal of loved ones.
The Fighter is the true story of fighter Micky Ward (Mark Wahlberg) and his half-brother and trainer Dickie Eklund (Christian Bale) and their dysfunctional family in Lowell, Massachusetts.
Micky Ward (played by Mark Wahlberg) is an up and coming boxer from the working class Massachusetts town of Lowell. He can’t quite reach success as a boxer and part of the reason is that his family doesn’t have his best interests at heart. His manager mom Alice (Melissa Leo) uses Mickey as the family meal ticket. His brother Dicky (Christian Bale) is his trainer, who is addicted to drugs. Dicky has been on the downward spiral since a controversial fight with Sugar Ray Leonard years ago.
When Micky meets Charlene (Amy Adams), she helps him find his true north and helps him turn his career and his life around. The Fighter has been in development since 2003, and Mark Wahlberg has been preparing for the role of Micky for five years. Mark Wahlberg not only starred in this film, he produced it. The actor stay in “fighting weight” shape for several years so he could be ready to shoot this film as soon as the project was funded.
Mark Wahlberg is believable as a man torn by his family and career. Amy Adams is amazing as Charlene and Melissa Leo is downright scary as Micky’s mother, the family matriarch. Christian Bale will probably win an Oscar for his performance as Dicky, he’s really good.
