Why We Are Amused by The Fountain Lady
Have you seen the woman falls in fountain video? We all had a good laugh at the fountain lady.
Are we cruel? This poor woman, who has now been identified as Cathy Cruz Marerro, was innocently texting as she was walking in the mall and then BAM! She falls in the fountain. But, she quickly gets up and walks away. The security staff who saw this were laughing and even playing it back from different angles.
Why do we think things like this are funny?
First of all, the fountain lady Cathy Cruz Marerro was okay. It would be different to laugh if she was seriously injured.
Second, hey, we’re a nation that watches the show “Wipeout.” The sole point of which is to watch people eat it. Viewers don’t really want to watch someone make it quickly through the obstacle course; they want to watch them fall, bounce, and make a big splash.
And finally, we laugh because we’re so glad that it wasn’t us.

Oka commented on Jan 20 11 at 6:43 pmWe were laughing at other’s expense long before Wipeout. How about AFV. Look at how many time some guy is hit in the nether region, falls off the trampoline, or an animals knocks them swiftly off their feet. We all laughed then too.

Julia commented on Jan 21 11 at 9:44 amI feel bad for the lady who fell into the fountain, she must be very humiliated. I’m confused though as to why she revealed her identity. I also think that suing the mall (or anyone) is character revealing.
