Bane: Why This Batman Villain?
We cannot wait for the next Batman movie to come out! “The Dark Knight Rises” has announced the cast. And the villains? Bane and Catwoman.
Bane will be played by Tom Hardy and Catwoman by Anne Hathaway.
But, of all the villains that could be used in “The Dark Knight Rises,” why Bane?
We have seen Bane in another Batman movie: he was a sidekick to Uma Thurman’s Poison Ivy. He has immense strength that comes from the poison venom. He’s powerful and intelligent.
But, is he the first villain you think of when you think of Batman? Obviously, the Joker has to be out. There’s the Riddler, Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, Two-face, the Penguin, Clayface, and tons more.
In any case, we’ll eagerly await the release of “The Dark Knight Rises,” schedule for release in July 2012.

adam commented on Jan 19 11 at 8:46 pmThat’s exactly why he’s the person villain. The other characters are tired, we’ve seen ‘em a million times. And, anyone who’s read the comics knows what a formidable foe Bane is. He fits Nolan’s universe perfectly, and I couldn’t think of a better villain for this movie.
Crofty commented on Jan 19 11 at 9:16 pmLet me geek out real quick (sorry): Bane is a great choice, and is an extremely important figure in the history of various Batman comics. His 1997 Batman and Robin version of Bane was embarrassing. He wasn’t introduced until 1993 in comics- but changed the way the various Bat-comics work and are written until the present day. In Bane’s introduction he was able to release all Batman’s foes from prison, wear out Batman and make him isolate himself from others, then find out he’s Bruce Wayne…and then broke his back. Ultimately someone (Jean Paul Valley/Azrael) took over as Batman and ruined his reputation – and it forced Batman/Bruce in his recovery to become darker, stronger – but also trust others more and create a sort of Bat-family of heroes – occasionally including the likes of *ahem* Catwoman. Bane might not be one of the classic 1960′s villains – but to the comic geeks he is a far more important and appropriate choice then say… the Riddler, Penguin, or other people that simply don’t match up to what Ras Aghul, Joker, and Bane have done to Batman (kudos Nolan, really, well done). These villains truly have also helped create the image of Batman to true fans, as much as Batman creates them.
bernie commented on Jan 19 11 at 9:29 pmTwo Face was in The Dark Knight, and he’s dead. Scarecrow? Ra’s Al Ghul? Not “iconic” Batman villains by most people’s standards and they did just fine in Batman Begins. Nolan knows what he’s doing, and if you still have doubts, watch Tom Hardy in ‘Bronson.’
Pat commented on Jan 19 11 at 10:19 pmYeah, Bane is a great villain for this movie. Especially based on the comics, he is easily one of Batman’s most formidable enemies. He just hasn’t been portrayed memorably on TV or film. Im sure that once Chris Nolan is finished with him though, he will be just as well known and memorable as the Riddler, Penguin or Mr. Freeze, if not more so.
TakerFoxx commented on Jan 20 11 at 3:20 amWhy not Bane? He’s one of the few Batman villains to actually defeat the Dark Knight. I actually started cheering when he was announced as one of the villains of the next movie.
David Roman commented on Jan 20 11 at 8:07 amRa’s al Ghul was a lesser known baddie too but was perfect for Nolan’s story. In Nolan we trust!
hamill86 commented on Jan 20 11 at 6:06 pmPeople need to buy or download Martina Cole’s the take its a four part mini series watch Tom Hardy in this he’s one of the most menacing characters ive ever seen its also an amazing story and well worth a watch Hardy’s going to be terriffying as Bane Nolan Nolan has chosen the perfect actor and character to take over from Heath Ledgers Joker.
Juiced Gannon commented on Jan 31 11 at 2:38 amThe best news to come is that there’s more news to come. The possibilities mount. Oops, there’s the boss. Be right back.
Juiced Gannon commented on Jan 31 11 at 8:08 pmI watched and enjoyed batman begins. I studied the direction. I sank into the plot. I emerged as an enlightened, hopful, rejuvinated fan. Batman is getting careful, serious, consious, long over due attention I thought. The franchise is in the best hands, chris nolan’s hands. The dark knight. I dont have to fill you with my shock and awe, you were there. You saw, for the 1st time in film, how psychotic the joker is to be portrayed. Ethicly challenged, batman had to push close friends aside to, “get on the level.” Masterpiece. And now… Bane. BANE. BANE!!!! Are you f#@$%$& kidding! Alfred RUN! Nolan gets to do BANE! Marvel who?
