"Your Own Show" premieres tonight

OWN: the new Oprah Winfrey network premiered last weekend and with it comes some new shows.

One of those is “Your OWN Show,” which gives the contestants a chance to compete for their own show on OWNYes, I know how many times I said “own” in that sentence. It premieres tonight, January 7th at 9/8c.  I was given a sneak peak at the show thanks to SheSpeaks and Klout: all opinions are my own, but I have to tell you that I’m already hooked! Keep reading to find out about the show!

The contestants are divided into two teams: the women(Vision) and the men + Alicia(Focus). The men were able to pick which of the women they wanted on their team.  Oprah says it takes vision and focus to succeed, hence the names.

Each week, the contestants will have a guest mentor. First week’s mentor is Dr. Phil.

The task for the first week is for each team to talk to men and women about relationships: do interviews on the street and also have Dr. Phil’s input during their segment. Each team selected an executive producer and two people who would actually host the show. The rest had to help put the segment together.

The men’s team had Alicia as their executive producer. Zach and Ryan were their hosts and they were a riot. I could definitely listen to their banter.  They selected the topic of how technology affects relationships, including texting.  I wished they could have had even more time; they were that good.

The women’s team was a mess.  The topics they came up with were called “inane” by Dr. Phil during the planning stages.  The one they eventually chose had to do with a lower stress level in condom-less sex. Um, WHAT? They ended up only using Dr. Phil as part of their segment for mere seconds. I thought it was obvious that they would be the losers in this first episode.

They did lose and were questioned on Stage 2 by hosts Carson Kressley and Nancy O’Dell, along with guest Dr. Phil. Before deciding who is eliminated, there will be one-on-one interviews with Dr. Phil.

Unfortunately, that is as far as my preview let me see! I’m dying to know who gets eliminated. I’m guessing either Lee, who was one of the hosts of the segment who let there be dead air or Elizabeth, who was their executive producer.

But, we’ll have to wait until tonight to find out!

Will you be watching?
