Agathe Von Trapp Passes Away At Age 97
Agathe Von Trapp has passed away at the age of 97. Agathe Von Trapp was the eldest child of the Von Trapp Family, daughter of Captain Georg Von Trapp and his first wife, Agathe Whitehead Von Trapp. Captain Georg Von Trapp had seven children before he married his second wife, Maria Von Trapp.
For those who are followers of The Sound of Music, Agathe Von Trapp most likely inspired the character of Liesl, played by Charmain Carr.
A friend of Agathe Von Trapp , Mary Louise Kane, confirms that Agathe passed away in a hospice center in Towson, Maryland on Tuesday. Mary and Agathe lived together for five decades and also ran a Kindergarten together in Maryland.
In 1988, the Von Trapp family was honored by Salzburg, Austria and given the Golden Decoration of Honor. Of the award, Agathe said, “We never expected to be honored for anything. ‘The Sound of Music’ has proven to be a great blessing to the city and land of Salzburg.”

It is, simply, a declaration of irrefutable FACT. Agathe Joanna Erwina Gobertina von Trapp was NOT the “eldest child” of the von Trapps as claimed in the article. She was the eldest DAUGHTER; but, she was born on “12 march 1913″ while her older brother, Rupert von Trapp, was born on “01 november 1911″ ~ one year, 4 months and 11 days before Agathe came along. It seems like “doing one’s HOMEWORK before posting something” might not be too awfully bad.
