Lunar Eclipse 2010 Time: Most Kids Will Be In Bed!

In case you have somehow missed it, there is a lunar eclipse tonight, the first and only total lunar eclipse 2010. The next lunar eclipse won’t be until 2014! Tonight also marks the Winter Solstice 2010…it’s a Winter Solstice lunar eclipse!

The lunar eclipse 2010 time will occur in the middle of the night for most people in the U.S. As a point of reference, the lunar eclipse December 2010 time will occur on the East Coast somewhere between 1:29am and 5:00am.

The lunar eclipse December 2010 will last for 72 minutes, and will make the moon completely red. An estimated 1.5 billion people around the world should be able to see it, but considering how late it is happening in the United States, most kids and worn-out parents will probably miss it, as they will be fast asleep!

Are you watching the total lunar eclipse 2010 even though the time isn’t exactly ideal?

Dear Luke D.,
The moon F’n hates you. It despises your very existence. You should probably run up to Homer Alaska with Leeann, whom is a boys name followed by a chicks name, so you can be the last mofo to watch this epic shit. And get your dreams crushed by the LA times red vagina monologue reference in their headline. I hope you miss this shit and have to watch Harish’s so-cool-I-post-my-blog-twice blog. While weeping to this horrible most likely Pink Floyd graced moon journal of a movie you should realize nothing but the vein of your air-hording horse face.

I’ve been watching it since it started. Went outside with my neighbor and have been taking pictures while I’m at it. INCREDIBLE. At lease I have pictures for my grandchildren when they come over for Christmas Eve on Saturday. You see being of hispanic descent, we celebrate on Christmas Eve.

David commented on Dec 21 10 at 2:27 am

The skys turned cloudy in the middle of the eclips. I can still see it but the red hue that was forcast is not visible to me here in NY. Damn the torpedoes!!!!!!!!!!!

paul begosh commented on Dec 21 10 at 2:31 am

David commented on Dec 21 10 at 2:33 am

I haven’t watched a total lunar eclipse since 1975 or ’76. This is wonderful and so historic as well. Scattered clouds in Texas but they are moving fast so won’t hamper viewing. Just a sliver left now!

Claudia commented on Dec 21 10 at 2:37 am

Well I guess this is going to bed time for me. Got some good pictures and a story to tell, because this definitely wil never happen again during my life time: A lunar eclipse and winter solstice to occur on Tuesday. If I read right, the next time the winter solstice and a total lunar eclipse will occur on the same calendar day will be Dec 21 of 2094. If the Lord tarries, my great grandchildren will probably see it.

David commented on Dec 21 10 at 3:03 am

I’ve been taking photos in Miami and it is totally red

David commented on Dec 21 10 at 3:05 am

Ditto everything David above said; glad I stayed up and watched. Got some presents wrapped between ventures out into the cold to check progress. Life is Good and God is Awesome.

Denise commented on Dec 21 10 at 3:12 am

Cloudy CA but still can see some of it! :-)

Megan commented on Dec 21 10 at 3:12 am

Guess this will be my last comment, but yes it is now covered but still very visible… well at least here in Miami. You can see the roundness of the moon and yes it is reddish. As I understand, it will be quite some time before it clears again, but by that time we will not be able to see it all that well because the sun will be out by then and the sky will be too bright. Sorry for all of those that missed this once in a life time event. Should’ve been awake. Nothing like witnessing it with your own eyes.

David commented on Dec 21 10 at 3:19 am

I’m so bummed – here in Columbus Ohio it isn’t visable due to cloud cover! Maybe I’ll be around in 2094 for the next Winter Solstice Lunar Eclipse?!?!

Sarah commented on Dec 21 10 at 3:25 am

This is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. My favorite animal is a wolf so I wouldn’t miss this for the world! I slept all day to stay awake and watch these breath taking moments Pass. This amazes me. <3

Chelsea commented on Dec 21 10 at 3:29 am

As I stood outside in this late night hour in the cold the moons phase about to begin as the shadow casts from its edge of its bright lumination darkness forms. The light slowly starts to disperse. Soon the last of the light smiles down at me and the shadow takes completely over. Then, the moon turns red at the lower half, the middle darkness becomes more of a misty shadow and the tip seemed to glow blue. I watched as the moons colors mezmorized me. Slightly changing, the moon becoming all red then back to a misty shadow and a mix of them. It was amazing. I start to chant and bring power into my runes that i had out with me, i chant words of my making. As i kept watching, i noticed the moons detail. Its true spherical shape. It almost litterally looked like a mini Saturn without the ring. I actually saw the whole moons in a pure spherical shape in a wide verity of wondrous colours and not the Bright Disc that we usually see. It was perfect in every way. Then I started to slowly turn, spinning in circles and keeping my eye on the moon, then it starts spinning, and the moon looking so enchanting. never have i seen it this way. more than ever before, and i still cannot explain it fully in words. I wish be out every lunar Eclipse for now on just to see this spectical again.

Aww, I woke up at 2am (waking up late, but the report for my state said it would be from 12-4am), looked outside, saw only clouds, looked online, saw that it was over, and then got really disappointed. My sad story of not getting to watch it.

cheryl commented on Dec 21 10 at 4:21 am

Sat in the cold FLORIDA night watching this spectacular event. Like all of you, I will not be here for this event from an earthly view in 2094. It is clear here in St Pete on the gulf coast and even in the city you can see stars twinkling and the beautiful orange glow that is making the moon tonight. The bluish haze, I believe, is atmospheric pollution. That is why it is not uniform. At any rate, I set my alarm, got up, put on my warm coat, made a hot cup of tea and enjoyed this gift. For all of you ‘believers’ out there I couldn’t help but sing “My God Is An Awesome God”; “How Great Thou Art”. and “I Believe”. Luckily, it’s 3AM and I am not destrying anyone’s ears and only mildly upsetting the peace. LOL. For the rest of you, keep your comments to yourself…I will respect you and would appreciate the same. My faith is always reassured by the symetry of our universe and humbly thank God for the gift of life; the gift of sight; the gift of His Son; and the chance to partake of this atrological event. Praise GOD! Merry Christmas to all!

We live in CT. My daughters are 9 and 11. They were game and I didn’t want to let them down, so we all slept in the 9-year-old’s bedroom (they insisted I take the bed and they slept on the floor) and we set the alarm for 2:24. It was cloudy – you could see the moon but no stars. We went out in the backyard (it was probably 10 degrees!) and while it had been full when we went to bed it was then crescent-looking, so we watched it disappear. I didn’t know what time it would reappear so we went back to bed a little after 3:00. Couldn’t detect any colors (red or brown) maybe because of the clouds. I got up again at 5:00 for work anyway, but couldn’t see the moon anywhere (supposedly it was ending at 5:05, I think I read yesterday), probably it had gotten cloudier. But we weren’t disappointed and I’m wondering how many of their friends got to see it (as in, perhaps their parents aren’t as crazy as I…). They’ll find out at school today.

Marlene commented on Dec 21 10 at 8:06 am
