Facebook Cartoon Profile Pic News: Hoax Or Not, Let’s Enjoy!
Cartoon characters have taken over Facebook this week in a reported effort to raise awareness of violence against children.
“In support of anti-child violence, change your Facebook profile picture to a cartoon from your childhood. Until Monday Dec. 6, there should be no human faces on Facebook, but an invasion of memories. Join the fight against CHILD ABUSE. Invite your friends to do the same.”
Nobody has been able to pinpoint the origin of the campaign. A few reports have mentioned the campaign started in Greece and Cyprus but does not seem to really be connected to any “stop child abuse” campaign.
Then there was a counter-movement after people started questioning whether the Facebook cartoon campaign was a hoax:
“ATTENTION! Just reported that the group that started the post about changing your profile picture to a cartoon character is actually a pedophiles group that is doing this because its easier to get accepted friend requests! Please re-post.”
Personally I think the whole campaign was simply a fun way to relive our childhood memories. I think those that started it never imagined it would explode in popularity!
Whether or not this is a real campaign against childhood violence, it definitely has caused much awareness!
Let’s just enjoy it while it lasts!
