Demi Lovato: Does Rehab Kill Her Teen Queen Status? Will Sonny Have a Chance?
Is Demi Lovato’s recent breakdown and rehab stint a career killer or a blessing in disguise?
After rumors of an eating disorder, cutting, being a victim of bullying and lashing out at dancers, Demi Lovato’s squeaky clean Disney manufactured image has become very tarnished. How will her career continue after she return from rehab? Will it be a triumphant tale of redemption with appearances on Oprah and the morning talk show circuit, or is it just the start of a downward spiral ala Lindsay Lohan?
But fortunately for both her health and image Demi’s issues don’t include drugs and alcohol, which would be harder to bounce back from. Instead she is dealing with issues that plague, sadly, numerous teens across the land. When she returns to work, will she be able continue with her Sonny With a Chance persona? Will there be a “very special” episode of Sonny with a Chance perhaps tackling these terrible teen issues? Will she go from Camp Rock to Camp Rehab? Will the whole real life drama be swept under the rug and not addresssed in her career and roles? Or will Sonny with a Chance seem to risky to continue.
But it could go the other direction altogether, could her breakdown be the breakout she needed? Many a teen star, especially of the Disney variety, struggle to make the transition from teen queen to more adult, edgier, mature roles. Her rehab stint may just open those doors for her. She can now be more Stormy then cheery and Sonny.
Do you think her rehab will have a great affect on her career?

jessica commented on Nov 07 10 at 1:07 pmDemi is my role model and when I heard this, I wanted to cry. But honestly, I think this is a turning point for her. I think that when she comes back from rehab, she’ll be a new Demi, but her morals won’t change. I think she’s still going to be that funny, people person. I think that she’s going to make a major come back and even more teens will look up to her and respect her more for overcoming these diseases that she has.

Bonnie commented on Nov 07 10 at 1:13 pmDisney can try and spin it anyway they want..rumors of drug and alcohol use have followed Demi around for a while now..it doesn’t really take a genius to figure out what really happen here..and yes her career is well over! Disney has her on contract for another year..the will pay her but probably sweep her under the rug and keep her quiet for that year..and nobody will what to work with her after that!

JoeChief commented on Nov 07 10 at 2:12 pmNo. Not by a long shot. People have been through worse within children entertainment companies and they’ve been successful. Even allegedly punching a dancer won’t do anything. Russell Crow has one of the most explosive tempers in hollywood and he’s still on top. Demi punched a dancer and went to “Rehab” to get her issues worked out. Best PR move ever and people are buying into it. If anything this will put her in the spotlight. You say nobody will want to work with her after that? Robert Downy Jr has had huge issues with both drugs and substance abuse problem. Guess what? He’s now Iron Man.
Come on.
Maureen Alexander commented on Nov 07 10 at 2:57 pmDemi Lovato is a talented young lady with a great future ahead of her. What the press has not mentioned is that Demi has been working non-stop for the past three years (starting at age 15). Besides her role on the Disney Channel’s “Sonny With A Chance”, for which she has filmed 47 episodes, she made three Disney Channel movies, recorded two albums, and spent three summers giving concerts promoting her albums. In her “free time” she has spent weekends making personal appearances & doing “Meet & Greets” with fans as promotions for Apple Computers and Shop Till You Rock promos at malls all across the country. She completed two years of home-schooling in one year so that she could get her High School diploma while shooting the “Sonny” series. She also has to do the required promotional work and press for her TV projects and albums.
Is it any wonder that the kid had an emotional collapse? Who wouldn’t? Most adults never keep a schedule like that. Never mind trying to cope with all the issues that the teenaged/ young adult years bring on. She has publicly talked about self-esteem issues she has dealt with over her appearance, been bullied in public school forcing her to be home schooled, and had a strained relationship with her biological father with whom there has been some estrangment over the years. Her well covered romance with Joe Jonas collapsed as she was on a publicity tour for Camp Rock 2 and the infamous Jonas Brothers/Demi Lovato World Tour. Demi didn’t even have the luxury to grieve her broken heart at home. After receiving the break-up news she literally had to face the cameras with the Jonas Brothers and then fly immediately to South America to fulfill her own personal concert tour.
Upon her return she had to complete filming “Sonny With A Chance.” Let’s not forget to mention that she had to spend four months on the road performing in concert with the ex-boyfriend, as well his new lady love, who often accompanied them on the road. Not stressful at all for an 18 year old girl, right?
If Disney has a brain, as well as a heart, they will support Demi Lovato. She didn’t commit a crime, she was unconsciously crying out for help. My heart breaks for her knowing that the press will now be out for her, particularly looking for any flaws in her character or behavior, when she is back in the public eye.
Demi is truly talented as an actress, musician, and singer-songwriter. She has been a teen spokesperson for bullying and will no doubt be speaking up for some of the other issues she needed to deal with at this time. She is admired by young people and their parents alike. She has been looked up to as a role model and will no doubt be considered one again.
She deserves to be respected for facing her problems in such a public fashion.I hope her managers take some responsibility for so grossly over- working and over -scheduling her. As for me, she has my prayers and support. Best wishes for your recovery and continued future success, Demi Lovato!

Emma commented on Aug 19 11 at 11:51 amDemi is an amazing and inspirational young woman she sadly went in for help with the issues of anerexia bollimia (eating disorder) and self harm (cutting) she has had a lot to deal with for years that has built up and im sure being in the public eye didnt help. These issues are from childhood bullying and being called fat (which is defo not true) that lead to a breakdown on the camp rock 2 tour with ex boyfriend Joe Jonas and his new girlfriend Ashley Greene which probably was a bit annoying for her. She finally decided to seek help after punching a backup dancer on the tour. She came out of treatment earlier this year better than ever and very open about her suffering in order to help other teenage girls with similar issues. She is a very strong and amazing role model who has had a very hard but short life im sure all her fans dont care about rumours because no matter what i defo know it was not her fault she had such a bad time of it it was disneys preasures, her very public breakup with Joe Jonas, the fact her biological father left when she was 2 and she barely talks to him and the horrible bullies. The most important thing we need to recognise is her amazing talent for singing and acting and that she was honest about her problems and speaks against bullying and has come out better than ever and has never been anything but an awesome role model that we all respect. I am so glad she is getting better and I hope her life continues to improve and im sure we would all love Jemi (Demi and Joe Jonas) to be back together DEMI LOVATO ROCKS!!! I LOVE HER!!!!
