Watch Portia de Rossi on Ellen: Portia’s Book a Look at Her Battle with Anorexia (Video)
Watch Portia de Rossi on Ellen DeGeneres in these video clips – they’re such a great couple, aren’t they?
Portia de Rossi is currently promoting her book, “Unbearable Lightness,” an inside look at her battle with anorexia that I’m looking forward to reading. In the book, Portia talks about weighing only 87 pounds at one point and eating only 300 calories a day.
I think there’s a lot of value to getting a first-hand look at an eating disorder and learning more about how Portia found her way to healthier living, especially for those of us raising young girls who seem to be becoming more body conscious at even younger ages.
In the Ellen DeGeneres Show video clips, Portia de Rossi explains how she started modeling when she was 12 – she said she was constantly compared to other girls and her body parts would be scrutinized, so she started to become self conscious about her body.
Portia talks about living a lifetime of chronic dieting and how she had to keep the secret that she was gay so that she could continue to get acting jobs.
Portia says, “When I look in the mirror today I really do accept myself from head to toe. This is exactly the weight I’m supposed to be. I realized it’s taking me a long time; you can’t fit a size 8 foot into a size 6 shoe. It’s just not going to happen. So when I look in the mirror I realize this is what I’m supposed to be…I don’t think that I’m perfect at all.”
Ellen replied, “I do!” “
Following her interview with Ellen, Portia took the time to answer some questions from audience members who had been moved by her new book, “Unbearable Lightness.”
Portia talks about how meeting Ellen helped her find strength in herself, completely changing the way she looks at life. “She’s taught me that who I am is perfectly good enough. And that I don’t have to pretend to be anything other than who I am. And that’s been the most incredible gift that she’s given me.”
