Everyone loves Tina Fey. She’s hilarious, witty and totally brilliant. But when many see her on screen especially on 30 Rock, they can’t help but look for her scar. Generally she is shot from an angle where it isn’t as prominent, but sometimes you just get a glimpse of it and are reminded of it’s existence and the sad story behind it. So how did Tina Fey get that scar?

Apparently when she was just five years old she was randomly attacked and was left with a several inches long deep permanent scar by her mouth on left side. She generally didn’t like to discuss her scar but her husband dished to Vanity Fair saying that, “It was in, like, the front yard of her house, and some body just came up, and she just thought somebody marked her with a pen,” he said. He added, “That scar was fascinating to me. This is somebody who, no matter what it was, has gone through something. And I think it really informs the way she thinks about her life.”

But Tina won’t talk about it telling Vanity Fair that, “It’s impossible to talk about it without somehow seemingly exploiting it.” She added that “It’s really almost like I’m able to forget about it, until I was on-camera, and it became a thing of `Oh, I guess we should use this side’ or whatever. Everybody’s got a better side.” Very true, and Tina Fey, all her sides are fabulous.  The New York Times had asked her about the scar back in 2001 where she said, “It’s a childhood injury that was kind of grim. And it kind of bums my parents out for me to talk about it.”

Do you notice her scar on 30 Rock or other places?
