Hereafter review roundup: Is it worth hiring a babysitter for?

Based on the “Hereafter” review roundup, I’d say the new Matt Damon flick is definitely worth of hiring a babysitter and hitting the town with your significant other – provided you can handle what sounds like a wrenching first scene depicting a devastating tsunami, directed with skill by Clint Eastwood.

Damon  plays a man who can channel the feelings of the dead, and the movie examines our mortality while also delving into questions of what death is like. Really, I’d see just about anything Eastwood directs, so I’m an easy sell – but decide for yourself with these reviews:

CBS News’ Katrina Mitchell: “Eastwood adroitly weaves together the stories of three seemingly unrelated characters into one clear, compelling story with universal appeal and that comes across as completely organic and utterly unforced. It’s a difficult thing to do when the subject matter is based purely on speculation and hypotheticals.

Louisville Courier Journal’s Claudia Puig: “A meditation on mortality, the movie deftly interweaves the stories of three people in different countries. It offers no clear-cut answers on life after death. Rather, it calmly examines death, grief and melancholy, packing a profound emotional punch.”

Time’s Richard Corliss: “Clint Eastwood’s Hereafter opens with the most exciting, expertly assembled flood scene in movie history.”
