Salman Rushdie To Pen Memoir – Will He Dish On Marriage to Padma Lakshmi?
There was big news in the publishing world this week. Acclaimed author Salman Rushdie will be writing a memoir of his fascinating life. Random House snapped up the rights for the book that won’t be released until 2012. The main focus will be about Rushdie having to go into hiding after the Ayatollah Khomeini of Iran issued a ‘death edict’ against Rushdie after he wrote The Satanic Verses, which was apparently very insulting to Islam. Rushie was in hiding from 1989 to 1998, but something very fortunate happened to Rushie the next year in 1999, he met and later married his fourth wife Padma Lakshmi.
It always seemed like an odd couple. Kind of like Marilyn Monroe and Henry Miller. A marriage of beauty and brains, and in both cases they did not last. It’ll be interesting if Rushdie gets into his post fatwa time and his romance with Padma. But if you can’t wait to find out about how they met, if it’s covered in the book at all, you can check out the New York Time Vows column about their wedding right here.
