Wear Purple October 20 for Spirit Day

Today is purple day – will you wear purple October 20th to celebrate Spirit Day? Today marks the day that GLAAD has deemed Spirit Day – a day that we can wear purple to show our support of GLBT youth.  GLAAD states on its website that;

Spirit Day honors the teenagers who had taken their own lives in recent weeks. But just as importantly, it’s also a way to show the hundreds of thousands of LGBT youth who face the same pressures and bullying, that there is a vast community of people who support them.

And even celebrities are supporting the cause!  Celebrity mom Catherine Zeta-Jones took to her twitter account last night to proclaim;

Everyone should wear purple tomorrow in honor of the people who killed themselves because of homosexuality. Spread the word. #NOH8

She even turned her avatar purple!  Other celebrities like Khloe Kardashian, her sister Kim Kardashian, Alyssa Milano and Glee’s Lea Michele have all taken to their twitter account to urge their followers to wear purple today to support Spirit Day!

I will be digging through my closet today to find something purple to wear, will you?
