The Talk: Is The CBS Show Worth Your Time? A Review Of The Good, The Bad and the Sharon Osbourne
The first episode of “The Talk” is over: Did you watch? What did you think? Here’s my thoughts on the new live daily talk show, including the good, the bad and the ugly. Will you be watching tomorrow?
The Good
*Sara Gilbert. She’s as awesome as you remember her on “Roseanne,” and totally gorgeous, comfortable with her own style.
*Gilbert tells us “Roseanne” premiered on the same date 18 years ago … man, I loved that show. (Except the last season; but that goes without saying.
*Holly Robinson Peete revealed that husband Rodney Peete, a former football player, watches NFLmate Kurt Warner on “Dancing with the Stars.” I was charmed by that.
* Julie Chen revealed she has an unauthorized Twitter doppelganger! Ooh, wonder what the Chenbot is saying?
* An actual revelation: Guest Christie Brinkley got botox! And it didn’t work, she claims. Can’t tell now. Also, Christie does leg lifts while she brushes her teeth and squats while she dries her hair. She must have really clean teeth and really dry hair if that’s really how she stays in shape.
* “Talking Sex with Kids” segment was cute – Marissa Jaret Winokur had a good rapport with the moms on the street, and it was a fun difference from “The View.” And I’m loving her blonde hair.
The Bad
*Too much self-promotion! Yes, we get it. You have a new show. Did we have to watch the birthing of said show in a 3-minutes sequence to begin “The Talk” whose only value was learning that if you launch a new show on CBS, you’ll get to be on “The Early Show” and “The Late Show?”
* Hmm, was that an iPad product placement as the show went to the second commercial, or were Leah and Sara just looking over (a little too eagerly) what looked like an iPad as the camera lingered on them?
* The table they sit around at the beginning. Did they steal that right from “The View” set?
The Ugly
*Sharon Osbourne. I love, love, love Kelly Osbourne and loved seeing her video to her mom … but there’s a reason her mom’s talk show was canceled after one season. She is just awkward. (Although she certainly does not look ugly. She looks fabulous – I want these people to do my makeup at my kids’ weddings.)
* I now know that Leah Remini calls her daughter’s, um, private area “her cupcake.” Hmm, isn’t she a Scientologist? Do they all do this? Either way, I didn’t need to know that, and her daughter will be very angry about this in 10 years.
* The six moms’ chemistry got better throughout the show, but it’s not there yet.

Phyllis Wininger commented on Oct 18 10 at 3:46 pmLoved your premiere show, but ladies get real! Not being honest with your children about and their parts of their bodies is lying. As a pediatric ER nurse I saw to many 12 year girls pregnant and not understanding how that happened! Yes, your explanations must be aged appropriate, but making words is not the way to go.
Gloria Cruz commented on Oct 18 10 at 5:26 pmLove the ladies but show was a little boring…..I know they have fire, let’s see some!
petergreek commented on Oct 18 10 at 8:51 pmThis show, was exactly the train wreck I had anticipated. What a waste of time. I suppose, you have to give a show some time to find it’s “legs”…but this “crippled” mess needs DOUBLE KNEE SURGERY to survive…
First of all… CHRISTY BRINKLEY? to OPEN a show? I mean, how many times could they tell her “YOUR BEAUTIFUL”? Does anyone wonder why CBS thought that SHE was the PERFECT FIRST GUEST??….I do?….That’s the BEST you can give us?
There seemed to be NO natural chemistry at all between any of the 6 hosts….Yes SIX HOSTS, sitting at a discarded VIEW TABLE from 14yrs ago…
NO spontaneity at all…it all seemed forced from the get-go.
The opening was lame, Sara Gilbert seemed like she hadn’t a clue what to do, and SHE created this mess
Julie Chen added direction-if nothing else.
and believe me it NEEDED something else.
Hollie Robinson Peete confessed she has “sweaty pits” and was just “GLAD to have a JOB”.
Leah Remini can’t imagine telling her daughter she HAS a vagina….” Ooooooo how DISGUSTING” What happened to the UP-FRONT, IN-YOUR-FACE BALLSY LEAH REMINI we all knew??
Sharon Osborne…well….she’s allready had ONE failed talk show….so don’t decorate your office just yet.
And Marissa Jaret Winokur…First of all WAY too many names–Drop one and …Second….Her lame interview segment with her trying to find SOME WAY to tell her 2yr old about SEX….a TWO YR OLD??…WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?
I put it up there, with the failed CHEVY CHASE talk show on FOX in 1993…It lasted 5 weeks, and the STENCH has still not left the studio…
Girls, prepare for a bumpy flight…the take off was shaky…the passengers needed some barf bags…and the landing???…well….heads down and brace yourself….it’s gonna get UGLY
Michelle commented on Oct 20 10 at 2:14 pmOne word: BORING!
I gave the show a second chance and tuned in today. It’s only 2:15 and I’m snoring.
Cyn commented on Oct 20 10 at 3:41 pmI was looking forward to watching the show. I’m disappointed.
Lela commented on Oct 21 10 at 4:38 pmI think that in time they could make this work. Sara Gilbert appears the most comfortable on the panel pretty much even with Julie Chen. Leah is still Carrie Heffernen and seems to need the most attention. Holly is right behind Leah and both seem to challenge one another for the camera’s eye. They just need to calm down and reel it in.
The only thing I have a problem with is that this many mature women are overwhelmed at being mothers. They just need to focus on being a parent when you are faced with things like Autism (I think Holly has an autistic child)…or some really more serious challenges in parenting other than silly things that you will work out on your own.
Sherry commented on Oct 22 10 at 5:23 pmI like that, they do not talk over each other so I can understand what each one is saying.
Karen Betts commented on Jan 04 11 at 1:16 amThe show needs to be cancelled waste of time, put back on Soap Opera
Nancy commented on Apr 14 11 at 9:35 pmThis show is worse than the view and I quit watching those crazy @ years ago.The guest on this show are on my list of “People I would like to forget”.Theres nothing entertaining. Just women who act like they’ve never seen a man before falling all over every male guest.Sharon Osbourne is obnoxious.I tried to watch it but had to watch Peoples Court. That’s how bad it is!
Eileen commented on May 26 11 at 4:35 pmI absolutely love “The Talk”.Even my mother, 95, likes it most of the time. It depends who the guest is. When everyone talks at the same time, it’s hard to understand what is being said. It’s getting better. Much better than watching “The View”. Those people were very biased.
Eileen commented on May 26 11 at 4:37 pmKaren Betts, you need to get a life, and enjoy something on a normal level.
donna commented on Sep 28 11 at 5:51 pmI tried again to watch but no I have a comment for Julie leave the games out it is like saying to your audience I WILL TALK REAL SLOW
This new women on the panel Sheryl underwood not good she is not funny and half the time I can’t understand what she is saying.
I don’t know why you insist on making this show seem like its a talk show for information because I could get more and better information in a bar full of drunks
I keep wating for someone to yell out LIVE FROM NEW YORK
DONE WASTING MY TIME
Ruth Cee commented on Oct 28 11 at 2:31 pmI stopped watching. Hate new people. If Julie’s husband wasn’t the
boss. she’d be looking for a kob.
