Courteney Cox and David Arquette tried to reconcile at the eleventh hour, hoping to save their marriage of 11 years, according to RadarOnline.com.
They got together for a last ditch effort to work things out just days before they announced their separation on October 10. They had already been living separately and dating other people.
According to friends of the couple, Courteney and David met secretly for their final talk. “It started out good, but it didn’t end that way,” a source said. “They tried to find common ground, what held them together all these years, their love for their daughter Coco. But it just ended in fighting and anger.”
The source said that Courteney has cried a lot since the announement and feels a tremedous sense of loss. “It’s hard to walk away from a marriage, even though she hasn’t been happy in a long time,” the source said.
“Courteney and David will be tied together for life by their daughter. Plus they both went through her infertility issues, miscarriages and all the heartbreak that went along with that.”
Although they have been living separately for months, both David and Courteney did not know when or if they would take the next step in dissolving the marriage. They both shared custody of their daughter Coco and spent time together as a family at the house they shared.
But when David began a relationship with someone else, things changed dramatically. “David slept with another person. Courteney has feelings for her costar and a complicated marriage became even more complex,” the friend said.
On Howard Stern show, David dropped the shock bomb when he admitted he with Jasmine Waltz, an aspiring actress. Reports also came out that Courteney has become extremely close to her Cougar Town co-star.
What was the breaking point in their marriage? “David was too immature for Courteney. In the end that’s what it came down to,” the source said. “That’s why that comment came out about her feeling like his mother, telling him what to do. He’s a great guy. But she thinks he’s really immature. Of course, some people see it as she’s controlling.”
Courteney suffered several miscarriages during their marriage and that must have taken a heavy toll on the relationship too. Ultimately as they tried to save their marriage, both realized that they didn’t have much in common anymore.

jamie g commented on Oct 15 10 at 7:05 pmNot sure if you heard the entire Howard Stern interview but the reason he called in was because he was upset with the tabloids portraying him as a cheater with that other woman. the tabloids were saying he was living with her and he set the record straight that they were not. he admitted to sleeping with her but long after they had separated. he was honest with courtney too about this. Also, everyone keeps saying that courtney said that she didn’t want to be his mother. In a previous Howard Stern interview, and in the one this week…the context of that comment was…..Courtney had given him a motorcycle for his birthday and said that she didn’t want to be his mother, and wanted him to have fun. No one will know the truth about why they are separated, but I can say that whatever the reasons are, it is really sad and if you heard the entire interview…he is still very hopeful regarding working it out with Courtney….
