Rick Springfield talks about his new book on GMA

Rick Springfield’s GMA/Good Morning America appearance this morning (video) to promote his new book, “Late, Late at Night,” shed some light on his career and battle with depression.

Rick Springfield is best known for his 1981 hit “Jessie’s Girl” and his role as Dr. Noah Drake on General Hospital, but in this GMA video clip, he talks about his depression behind the scenes.

At age 17, Rick Springfield tried to kill himself, but it was a failed suicide attempt that changed his life. Springfield says, “I felt like I was here for a reason. Music.”

Springfield talks about the rash of teen suicides and offers this advice: “Give it a year. Your life will change. Nothing remains the same.”

Rick talks more about how if he did commit suicide he would have missed out on the amazing stuff in life, including his family and his two boys.

Rick Springfield has been married more than 25 years, though he admits in the book that he had cheated on his wife. He says his wife is “the most amazing person” and they’ve “been through a lot… we’re better together than we are apart.”

“Late, Late at Night” hits stores today. Will you pick up a copy of Rick Springfield’s book?
