Remembering Author, Producer, and Father Stephen Cannell
The television and literary world lost a master of suspense today with the death of Stephen J. Cannell. The writer and television producer passed away earlier today due to complications from melanoma at the age of 69.
Cannell has had a lasting impact on the world of television through his string of hit television shows dating back to the 1970′s including 21 Jump Street, The A-Team, The Commish, and many more.
In addition to his TV credits, Cannell has authored 16 novels and has recently appeared on the ABC show Castle as one of Castle’s poker buddies.
He is survived by his wife Marcia and their three children – Tawnia, Chelsea and Cody.
“He was surrounded by his family and loved ones,” a statement from the family reads. “Aside from being a legendary television producer and prolific writer, Stephen was also a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a loyal friend. Mr. Cannell is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 46 years, Marcia, their three children, Tawnia, Chelsea and Cody, and three grandchildren. Stephen was the pillar of strength within his family and he touched everyone he met. He will be most deeply missed.”
Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends.

Jean Bennetts commented on Oct 02 10 at 4:15 pmAs a UO classmate, I’ve followed his career since our graduation. I especially loved “Riptide” and still have a small, metal Riptide 1960 Corvette given to me by my son iin 1985 as well as an 1984 “Old Oregon” article when he was inducted into the newly formed “Webfoot Society”. He will be greatly missed.

Ann Harris commented on Oct 03 10 at 12:26 pmMy deepest condolences to the family of Mr. Cannell…my thoughts and prayers are with you all. I have enjoyed his work for many years and he will truly be missed..a great talent. I understand the loss and pain they feel. I lost my daughter to Melanoma in 2008. She asked her brother to tell her story and he has founded THE TRACY HARRISON FOUNDATION FOR MELANOMA AWARENESS awishfromtracy.org for education, awarness and research. There is a temporary website up with the new one launching in the next few weeks. We must educate everyone about skin cancer and especially Melanoma..the most deadly and with the least research.
