Watch Joaquin Phoenix's David Letterman interview

Watch Joaquin Phoenix in this David Letterman interview (September 22 video), looking as normal as normal can be. A far cry from Joaquin Phoenix’s last appearance on Letterman, for sure.

Phoenix appears on Letterman to talk about that much talked about interview in 2009 and his new film, “I’m Still Here.”

Letterman says he likes Joaquin and compliments his tremendous talent, saying, “and then a year and a half ago you come out and it’s like you slipped and hit your head in the tub… What do you have to say for yourself?”

Casey Affleck and Joaquin Phoenix both wanted to make a film that “explored celebrity… explored the relationship between the media and the consumers and the celebrities,” Phoenix explained, adding, “We wanted something that would feel really authentic.”

Joaquin said he started watching reality shows and was surprised that people believe that these shows are real. “You just use your name and people think that it’s real.”

Was David Letterman in on the hoax? Nope, Phoenix confirms, saying there was no script for his Letterman appearance, but added, “I assumed you would know the difference between a character and a real person, but I apologize.”

Later in the interview with Joaquin Phoenix, Letterman said he wanted $1 million for his appearance in the film. Phoenix said, “We’ll work it out, but can we talk about it privately?”

What did you think of the Joaquin Phoenix interview? Have you seen “I’m Still Here?”
