Bill Clinton talks to David Letterman
Former President Bill Clinton talks with David Letterman in this video clip, discussing his daughter Chelsea, his health, and the Clinton Global Initiative.
First off, David Letterman comments that Clinton is in tremendous shape, that he looks like a kid! Bill Clinton says he’s lost 24 pounds.
They talk about Clinton’s heart surgery and Bill said he decided to diet, and be part of a medical experiment that involves eating a plant based diet. Turns out the side effects were weight loss and looking good walking Chelsea down the aisle for her wedding.
Letterman asks more about Chelsea, including how Bill and wife Hillary, being high profile figures, were able to raise their daughter.
Bill Clinton said he gives a lot of credit to Hillary and to Chelsea, noting that they made Chelsea feel special, but not because of who her parents are. He says parenting is not rocket science, but gives a lot of credit to daughter and mother.
Bill notes that they were only able to have one child, and he and Hillary always thought it was their most important job to raise Chelsea properly.
As for his son-in-law, Marc Mezvinsky, Chelsea has known him since high school and he and Chelsea didn’t go out until about three years ago. Clinton says it’s a wonderful thing because they went through high school and their college years being friends.
He said he feels very blessed: “he’s a good man… I not only care for him, I genuinely admire him.”
Clinton jokes, “Hillary wanted this marriage because she wants to be a grandmother more than she wanted to be president.”
Then Letterman and President Clinton talk about the Clinton Global Initiative, with Bill noting, “All we ask people to do is to make a commitment…. Don’t just talk about the stuff anymore, do something.”
