Michigan State Coach And Dad Mark Dantonio Suffers Heart Attack: What’s His Prognosis?
Michigan State football coach Mark Dantonio had a career-defining win against Notre Dame yesterday, using a trick play to score a 34-31 overtime triumph. But just minutes Michigan State Notre Dame finished up, the father of two suffered a mild heart attack that landed him in the hospital.
The 54-year-old was rushed to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing just minutes after his post-game press conference ended. Luckily for Dantonio, he expected to make a full recovery after a stent was inserted into a blocked blood vessel.
Obviously heart problems are serious no matter what the cause, but doctors said it could have been much worse. The physician who operated on him said that damage to his heart was minimal.
Still, don’t expect Dantonio to be rejoining the team anytime soon. The MSU athletic director put out a statement saying that offensive coordinator Don Treadwell will assume the day-to-day responsibilities of the head coach until Dantonio recovers.
Dantonio and his wife, Becky, have two daughters: Kristen (17) and Lauren (15).
