Barack Obama Writes A Children’s Book: Will You Buy It?
President Barack Obama is about to add children’s author to his long list of accomplishments: He’s written a kids book. “Of Thee I Sing: A Letter to My Daughters,” which has a supercute illustration of Sasha and Malia walking the family dog on its front, features Obama’s tributes to 13 Americans who made a big impact, such as baseball player Jackie Robinson and artist Georgia O’Keefe.
The book is slated to come out in November, just a couple weeks after the midterm elections.
I know what you are thinking: I barely have time to read books to my kids. How did the leader of the free world carve out enough time to write a book?
Well, presidents are masterful multi-taskers. I’m sure Obama was composing the book in his head while he helped Michelle Obama tend the White House garden or watched “Real Housewives of DC” for evidence that Michaele and Tareq really DID crash the party. I kid. The president does not watch “RHODC;” he watches “RHONJ.”
I kid again. In fact, Obama wrote the book before he took office; the publisher has simply delayed it until now, which is pretty savvy. It wouldn’t have sold nearly as many copies six years ago, when it was written.
Anyway, is this book, being published by Alfred A. Knopf Books for Young Readers, an imprint of Random House Children’s Books, worth buying?
I’m not ready to commit, and it has nothing to do with politics. There are about a million books about Robinson and O’Keefe already out there. I’ll have to see who the other Americans he profiles are. Otherwise, I’d rather just wait till my kids are old enough to read Obama’s biographic “Dreams From My Father” and discuss with them.
Oh, and in case you’re wondering, the president is donating all the proceeds to charity, which should be a lot of dough. His last two books sold a million copies each.
