Lady Gaga explains her meat dress to Ellen DeGeneres

Lady Gaga’s meat dress explained! Watch Lady Gaga in her meat dress getup on Ellen DeGeneres’ show, where she tells Ellen what exactly the deal is with the dress that she wore for her final VMAs 2010 award.

Ellen is clearly not digging that Lady Gaga meat dress, as Gaga comes out on stage and Ellen works around the dress to get a kiss in. No hugging on the meat dress!

Lady Gaga explains that she was nervous for the VMAs because she stands for hard work and “being youself,” and “it was really difficult” for her to show up for the awards show and pose on the carpet.

Gaga explained, “I can’t let my fans down tonight, because then I’m just another bitch in a dress at an awards show.”

Which leads us to Lady Gaga’s meat dress – what’s it all about, Gaga? Ellen is vegan, so I don’t think she was too jazzed about the meat frock.

Gaga explains, “It’s certainly no disrespect to anyone that’s vegan or vegetarian. As you know I’m the most judgment-free human being on the Earth. It has many interpretations, but for me this evening it’s [saying] if we don’t stand up for what we believe in, if we don’t fight for our rights, pretty soon we’re going to have as much rights as the meat on our bones.” Also, she says she’s “not a piece of meat.”

Alrighty, then.

Ellen does her part by offering up a veggie bikini for Gaga to wear next time!

I’d much rather see Gaga in kale than steak… what did you think of the Lady Gaga meat dress? Will kids understand her “statement” – read our 10 Ways to Explain it to Your Kids!

I’m a 36 yr old married mother of 3.My hubby & 15 yr old son, arent fans of Gaga, but my 12 yr old daughter,9 yr old son & I luv her music. We thought Gaga was a vegan tryin 2 make a statement (thus the birds nest around her head last yr emmys;the meat dress-u wouldn’t wear it why eat it? Or so we’d hoped)I’m a vegatarian myself, but not a vegan eggs r the only meat I eat.We think Gaga’s the excentic new Madonna of r time, but plz stop wearing dead animals, stick 2 ur plush Kermit atire instead…lol.

The only thing that’s sadder than Lady Gaga wearing meat on her head is that if it was instead leather, fur, cashmere, feathers, wool, angora, or any other “fabric” animals suffer and are slaughtered for, no one would care. Wearing a dead, rotting animal carcass on your body should not be fashion, I don’t care who designs or wears it.

To the 36 year old married mother –
I am 23 and cannot believe that you type like that! Is it much harder to type everything out? It just sounded like you were uneducated and immature.

Terrible news lady grow up.
Oh and it’s eccentric not excentic.

@Christie: if you read this article at all you’d realize that the meat dress was supposed to express the exact OPPOSITE of fashion. Save the soap box speech for where you don’t make yourself look like a tool.
@CWHITE: you’re awesome.

Disgusting!

You can interprete it in many ways and that is the idea. This is why it is much more than a weird fashion statement but rather an invitation for debate or at least thinking, and the nice thing about Gaga is that she is not expecting anyone to necessarily embrace her ideas, but just to question oneself.

@CWhite: love your comment! (or should I say “luv yr comnt”? :)

So what I want to know, why are we all bashing on her for the way she types? Maybe she was uneducated. I hate people that bash on people like that because well let’s face it you do not know anything about them and one day you will say something offensive to somebody you do not know and their little “uneducated” brain is going to take it and twist it into something worse.

Lady Gaga’s great! I’m not really a huge fan of her music. It’s okay and some of her songs are better than others I really just find her extremely interesting. The fact that she can draw people to her that don’t particularly care for her music is brilliant and she’s great at it! Gotta love her! On another note… REALLY CWhite did you not know what Janel was saying???? Why do you find it necessary to point that out??? I really don’t think that Janel’s education is the problem. She probably didn’t give a shit how her typing looked. WTF? I hope you just made yourself feel better that you called some 36 y e a r old mother of 3 who I guarantee you knows a hell of a lot more about life than your punk ass! Speaking of immature…I don’t think I have put someone down to make myself look better since the 3rd grade. Maybe you should listen to GAGA a little more often and pay attention to the her message.
