Sofia Coppola’s film “Somewhere,” a look into the life of a Hollywood actor whose reality is strung together by sex, drugs, and alcohol, won the Golden Lion award at the Venice film festival on Saturday.

The drama tells the story of rising star Johnny Marco, played by Stephen Dorff, who finds himself living large but lonely in the city of Los Angeles. When Marco’s young daughter unexpectedly comes to stay with him, he begins to question his Hollywood lifestyle and the choices he is making.

As the youngest child and only daughter of director Francis Ford Coppola, Sofia grew up knowing what it was like to travel from hotel to hotel with her father. The mother of two reportedly used these experiences as a basis for the the film.”Thanks to my Dad for teaching me,” said Coppola at the awards ceremony.
