Real Housewives Ends in Divorce, Misery For One Cast Member
Those who have been tuning in to The Real Housewives of DC know Cat Ommanney as the ever-haughty, somewhat mean Brit. However, now that the show has wrapped, instead of book deals, spin off products and offers to be on Dancing With the Stars, she has gone through a divorce and is wishing she had never agreed to be on reality TV.
Cat’s husband Charles, whom we have seen on the show, is a Newsweek White House photographer. She knew him just five months before getting married and moving with him and her two daughters from a previous marriage from London to the States.
The show put a strain on their marriage and in the end Charles ended up walking away. Cat has not seen or spoken to him, and has no hopes that they will get back together. When he left, “he closed the door on every level,” she says and was upset about “the swanning around,” done on reality TV. As a serious photographer, he was embarrassed about being on a show and has called Housewives one of his few regrets in an article for the New York Times.
His feelings took Cat by surprise. “It was actually his boss (at Newsweek) that asked me if she could put me up for the show. I didn’t know what I was getting into. I hadn’t heard of the show. So I find it quite ironic that Charles is obviously portrayed as being—everyone is feeling sorry for Charles, while I’m completely put out in the cold.”
“His boss said it wouldn’t be a bad thing for Charles, as Newsweek was in trouble, and Charles is an incredible photographer,” Cat continues. “And having him and his charming presence and his talent on TV wouldn’t be a bad thing for his career at all. So it wasn’t just about me and my book. She thought it would be a good thing for both of us.”
So will Cat be returning for a second season. Probably not. “I’m not in a very happy place,” she tells The Daily Beast. “Now I’m three stone lighter, and I’ve lost all my family. I think there’s always got to be a villain in any show. But I didn’t imagine myself to be set up to be the villain.”
