T.I. Arrested: Parents Disappointed – Was His Anti Drug Message Just Lip Service?
T.I. has been talking the talk but apparently hasn’t been walking the walking. For the last two years T.I. has been visiting a slew of school and youth centers to warn kids about the dangers of drugs. Yes, it may be just part of the community service that the court demanded he do, but was it all lip service?
On Wednesday night T.I. and his wife were arrested for being in the possession of a controlled substance, and his drug bust has been a disappointment to not just his general fan base, but those who are the youngest, and most influenced by the teaching of their elders and idols.
A parent who was at a recent meet and greet with the singer/producer said that, “I thought he was really sincere, but after today I feel a little differently,” the mother said. “He tells them to do one thing then he does the complete opposite.”
Lots of kids look up to T.I. and many parents are left with trying to explain the situation to their children. A psychology professional stated that, “Talking publicly about staying off of drugs might reflect the fact that T.I.’s own inner conflict was speaking pretty loudly to him,” she said. “Children need to understand that the change process can be hard and can take time.”
The principal of a school which T.I. recently visited said, “The kids clearly heard the message about how the choices they make now may have consequences that affect their futures.” The kids heard but apparently T.I., well he didn’t. One lesson for him? Practice what you preach.
