Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren Reach Divorce Settlement, Which Other Stars Have Paid Big?
Now that Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren are officially done it’s time for all of us to start guessing what the former Mrs. Woods walked away with in the divorce settlement!
Although the former couple aren’t releasing the details, it has been rumored that Elin has received $750 million in the divorce along with primary custody of their children – Sam, 3, and Charlie, 1. Whatever the final price tag was we shouldn’t expect to see Elin sitting down for any steamy tell-all anytime soon as the settlement is largely contingent on her remaining quiet on the disintegration of the marriage.
Tiger is hardly the first celebrity bad boy to pay big in his divorce… which other celebrities found themselves paying out millions to their exes?
Mel Gibsonholds the record for the biggest Hollywood divorce settlement following his divorce from ex-wife Robyn in 2009. Why the big payout? The couple were married for 29 years and didn’t have a prenup!
Michael Jordan previously held the record for high profile pro-athlete divorce with a whopping $168 million settlement to ex-wife Juanita in 2007 after eighteen years of marriage.
Harrison Ford paid his former wife of twenty-one years, Melissa Mathison, an estimated$85 million in 2004. The big payoff for Ms. Mathison comes with her ownership of a share of future royalties from two of the Star Wars movies and 3 of the Indiana Jones films.
Madonna is the only lady on the list having paid ex-husband Guy Ritchie nearly $76 million after eight years of marriage.
Steven Spielberg paid ex-wife Amy Irving $25 million for each year of their 4-year-marriage. The $100 million payout was largely due to the couple’s very informal prenup written on a napkin.
Kevin Costner may have married his college sweetheart, Cindy Silva, but things turned sour following a string of blockbusters and rumors of infidelity. Costner ended up paying his ex an estimated $80 million in the divorce in 1994.
Kelsey Grammer may not be divorced from his current wife Camille, but when it does become official the former Frasier star can expect to open up his wallet. The couple who have been married for 13-years have no prenup. Note to Kelsey – you should probably finalize your divorce settlement prior to announcing that your 20-something girlfriend is expecting your baby!
Is there a lesson to be learned for these high profile uncouplings? Protect yourself before the rings are exchanged in order to take care of potential miscommunication in case it all comes off the rails later.

A wife does not get over such ordeal in a short period of time. I think that Elin Nordegren is a woman with class, dignity and self respect and she would have never stay with a man like Tiger Woods, whom she may not respect and trust anymore. Tiger Woods seems to be a troubled man with serious character and emotional issues that appears to be long standing. Elin seems to know that the emotional demands of staying married to Tiger Woods would have been very high and not worth it. Elin has a big responsibility to herself and her two small children. I commend Elin for her wise decision, for being a caring and loving mother and for her great courage, dignity and class during this horrid time in her life. I wish them all the best!!!
Anne commented on Aug 24 10 at 10:53 amI agree that Elin has conducted herself well during the last 9 months. I understand there was a pre-nup with Tiger and that should be honored—no more and no less regardless of the reason for divorce.
