Jersey Shore Star Makes $5 Million: Bad Precedent For Kids?

JTM 052493 172x300 Jersey Shore Star Makes $5 Million: Bad Precedent For Kids? Parents, you might want to sit down for this one. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jersey Shore break-out star, Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, is on track to make for than $5 million this year. That’s right, the overgrown teenager who found fame by coining the acronym GTL (gym, tan, laundry) and partying non-stop, and revealing his abs whenever and wherever he can, is one of the highest earning celebs out there.

While, during contract negotiations, cast members of MTV’s hit reality show asked for $30,000 per episode (which would’ve been a 200% raise), a source told The Hollywood Reporter that Sorrentino is actually earning closer to $60,000 each episode. And that number does not include income from event appearances–for which his fee ranges from $15,000 to $50,000–and various endorsements.

Sorrentino’s manager, Mike Petolino, is making that case that Sorrentino is working hard for his money: “He has been able to secure many endorsement deals, business opportunities and additional television offers based on the success of the show,” he said. “Our goal has always been to try to build a brand if the situation presented itself.” But really–”business opportunities?” Does that include payment he gets every time he lifts up his shirt?

Perhaps we’re just jealous–but is this really setting a good precedent for all the kids out there watching Jersey Shore and ogling at the cast members’ fame and fortune? Back when we were kids, sure, there was the Real World, but other than that, we were sure we’d have to work pretty hard to achieve any sort of success. Are shows like Jersey Shore and their stars–who basically have the world at their fingertips because of their outrageous and oft-entertaining behavior–teaching kids that there is an easy way out, and they should try to take that?

I would rather be unsuccessful( which I am not), than be an illiterate absolute moron….these idiots have no personal credibility and are simply the ‘bottom of the barrel’…..unfortunately the majority of our population are equally mediocre, which is why they relate so well……

is this setting a good example? well does it matter, the kids growing up right now are f@*#ed any way every other show on tv either tells them to act stupid be lazy and conceded and be a slut, or shows them how to get away with robbery, cheating, and murder. my generation (im 25) is the last one to have any morrals or ethics whatsoever and most dont have many to spare. so is this show bad for your children? no worse than all the other crap they put on tv i guess.
