Celeb Mom Dr. Laura Schlessinger In Trouble Again, Plus Her Three Other Biggest Controversies
Radio talk show host Dr. Laura is in trouble again. Dr. Laura Schlessinger has apologized for using the n-word during an on-air conversation with a woman earlier this week, who called into the show to complain about her husband’s friends making racist comments.
Dr. Laura responded by saying the n-word several times and telling the woman, “black guys say it all the time.” After the woman objected, Dr. Laura replied, “I guess you don’t watch HBO or listen to any black comedians” and accused the woman of being “hypersensitive” to racism.
Later Dr. Laura ended the show a bit early, and she explained to listeners on Wednesday that she’d been so upset over her behavior that she couldn’t continue.
Let’s just put aside the fact that it’s hard to understand how someone could say that word 11 times and only later realize how wrong it was. Why does Dr. Laura, the mother of a son who served a tour of duty in Afghanistan, keep putting her foot in her mouth? She clearly doesn’t have an “off” button. Here, three other major blow-ups she’s been at the center of over the past 10 years.
2000 – Dr. Laura says homosexuality is a “biological error” and gay people should stay closeted, prompting massive protests over her new TV talk show.
2007 – The Santa Barbara News-Press suspends Dr. Laura’s column after questions arise over a MySpace page with violent imagery attributed to Dr. Laura’s son, Deryk. But it’s never clear if the page is real or a forgery.
2008 – Proclaims that wives may share some of the blame when their husbands cheat, claiming they’re pushed into cheating when their needs are not being met. We bet Sandra Bullock disagrees with that.

How about just taking the high road when you just don’t have anything intelligent to say? And also, if you can get that upset about a word that has never been directed toward you I tend to beleive that there has to be something much deeper then this one phone call. God Bless you Doc!

If your GF playfully calls you a bitch over lunch, you are cool with it, but if the waiter, calls you a bitch, it’s not funny at all. Get it Laura? It’s not about color is it? BTW- I doubt the call was real. It sounded like a scripted act- to boost her show ratings.

One day a kid pulled a prank on me, and pulled out my chair when I sat down… everyone in the room laughed. The next day I did the same thing to my best friend thinking it would be funny and everyone would laugh. They did not laugh, and instead other black kids said I was being racist and beat the shit out of me.

If some people of her color use that word, they should be dissed for it. if she or that neighbor uses that word, they should equally be dissed for it. It is especially appalling that this DR is a-oking the slur aimed specially towards her in the context of her marriage and spouse (a personal aim of the slur word). the MOTIVE and CONTEXT of a slur used can make the word from a general slur to a personal deeply painful one (which it was to the caller).
Tried to listen to this “DR” many times, but all she seemed was overly judgemental and closed-minded and always thought she herself needed to see a DR.

is she apologizing that she hurt a caller who wanted help, but instead demeaned her ? is she apogozing that since the caller has the sense to realize the slur is wrong,, she should not marry anyone outside of her color bracket, as they can be potential slur-ers?

Isabella commented on Aug 13 10 at 12:43 pmOne of the most amazing “Dr” Laura phone calls that I heard several years ago involved a 50 year old woman who was concerned because she had just found out she was pregnant which she and her husband had not planned. They did not have other children. Of course, Laura let her know that abortion wasn’t an option and so the woman had to have the baby. BUT – Laura went on to say that the woman was “too old” to actually raise a child. So she needed to give the baby up for adoption to younger parents. And that was her very authoritative pat answer to this poor woman.
It was a real pleasure to be part of a large movement, “stop dr. laura’ – we managed, through mail to sponsors and management, to convince the manager of KGO talk radio in San Francisco to cancel plans to give her a show. Around this time her television show tanked and people had to be hired to be in her audience for the trial runs.
Her racist rant is no surprise at all. She is a vile, vicious, mean person who has made a living belittling, demeaning and humiliating her callers and others. I wonder if she still starts out her cute little show with “I am my son’s mom” or whatever that ridiculous tag line was. Once the photos of her son playing Nazi appeared perhaps she dropped it. I never read anywhere that those photos were not Deryck Schlessinger.

Deryk still sees the girl that cheated and took him over the edge when the court martial investigation was launched. She is Catholic and he now wears a rosary. I wonder how Mom likes that. She does not like mixing religions. This is a sick family and they all need to be called out on what they’ve done and continue to do.I sent Larry a picture of Deryk with a rosary and asked about the religious part. He wouldn’t ask or answer any of my questions anyhow.
