Gluten Free – Is This New Diet Trend for You? Plus 5 Recipes!-

SGY 011312 Gluten Free Is This New Diet Trend for You? Plus 5 Recipes! There is a new diet trend that is gaining popularity and yet again it is being inspired by celebrities. The gluten free diet. Gwyneth Paltrow, Chelsea Clinton, Anne Hathaway, and Mary Louise Parker are just a few celebrities limiting the amount of gluten in their diets. And at Chelsea Clinton’s recent wedding, her wedding cake was a gluten free confection.

So what’s gluten? “Gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye, barley and oat products, can trigger allergic reactions in people who suffer from celiac disease and gluten intolerance. So gluten-free foods are devoid of wheat, rye, barley or oat gluten.”

But is this diet for you?

About three million Americans suffer from celiac disease and many have less overwhelming gluten intolerances. But the thing about going gluten free, it doesn’t mean less calories or less fat. It’s not really a lose weight since many gluten free products amp up the sugars and fats to make the foods more palatable.

One celebrity that is on the forefront of the whole gluten free movement is The View’s Elisabeth Hasselbeck. She even put out a book called the G-Free diet.  She said, “I learned about gluten the hard way. I wrote this book so you don’t have to. Most people with celiac disease, like me, have a story to tell. My hope is that in reading mine, and the pages that follow, you will be able to begin your journey to a better body and a better self—without all the heartache (and bellyache!) that I endured for far too long.”

It’s a hard diet to stick with and gluten is, surprisingly, almost everywhere from soy sauce to lipstick. Unless you’re body really does have an issue with gluten, this fad diet may go the way of the Cabbage Soup diet and the Beverly Hill Diet.

If you are interested in cooking gluten free, here are five recipes to try.

For many families on the autism spectrum or with ADHD, GF(and CFSF) isn’t a fad, it’s a way of life. It’s not so hard, once you learn the substitutes…

Funny, I started the diet to help my kid. Then, I discovered I was gluten intolerant. Gluten causes excessive problems in everyone who binges on processed foods.

That’s why this whole country is depressed and fat. Just sayin’.
