Many are heralding Jet Blue Flight Attendant Steve Slater as a modern day hero. A symbol of the ‘working man’. A man who was fed up and just wasn’t gonna take it anymore. While some are saying “way to go Steve!” what kind of message is admiration of this “folk hero” sending to our kids? I say, not a good one. Why?

Although he did stand up for himself, which is admirable when faced with someone who was apparently being quite rude, Slater could have handled the situation much better. Sure, it is an amusing moment, with Slater grabbing a brewski and going down the emergency slide. But with being caught up in the “fun” of the story many aren’t being mindful of what kind of an effect “honoring” this modern day hero could have on the kids.

Is it sending the message that quitting in such a style is a-okay? What happened to the two weeks notice? What happened to the good old-fashioned resignation letter?

And the profanity! I, for one, try to shield my child from swearing. How about the young ears on board the plane? Hearing the flight attendant, over the load speaker no less, cursing not unlike a sailor is something no parent traveling with young children would enjoy.

And how about the kids respect for the flight attendants? These are the people who we rely on to keep us safe, the people we tell our children to listen to and to follow their instructions. If these same people are behaving like Steve Slater, doesn’t that go against the authority and trust we put into them? If Slater worked in a restuarant kitchen, in a café, or at his neighborhood Barnes & Noble, his behavior would not be as shocking or as news worthy.  And with so many harboring fear of flying, especially kids, knowing that the person who is there to aid you could just quit and slide off the plane at a moments notice is a bit off putting to say the least.

Do you think this is sending a bad message to the kids?

Kids are a product of their upbringing and enviornments. If you seriously believe supporting this man is going to change anything you may seriously wanna consider allowing your child to watch the news. People will always stand up for what they believe in, and in tough times when they have nothing to lose, they believe in sticking together, whether helping one another or opposing the opposition.

Perfect for the kids. I want this guy as my babysitter!! Kids are pussys these days due to parental suffocation and their Parent’s continuous attempts to mold them into what they’ve never become. Steve took a leap, which resonates with all to refuse to comply with the false etiquette so many have burdoned their children to absorb. I can’t wait to see this guy on Letterman!!

She must have some awesome Parents who also don’t know what respect means….

This jerk was on a flight to San Fran and was very rude to me, whining that he couldn’t help me with my bag into the overhead compartment because he had a bad back. He was very unprofessional. It was only a matter of time until he cracked because he was on his way in June 2010

Oh how I have enjoyed Steve Slater and Jet Blue.
I am scared to death to fly,but boy do I understand Steve’s story.

I have been a hospital employee for 39 years.
How about a plane full of people, and they are all ill ??

I face 350 pound folks who say hurry get me on the pot,oh god it’s too late.

Across from him sits a passenger vomiting all over himself, while the passenger behind him has fallen out of his seat.

Heart attack in row 3 !

Report to the desk, one of your passenger’s isn’t looking too good tonight, and the passengers family member thinks it’s something you have done to them.

Put in catheter in seat 4 passenger, they were just bladder scanned for 1 liter.

Break ? What break ? Get down to the 350 pounder,he feels his bowels are moving again..as you are guiding him toward the commode, you can feel a warm liguid heading for your new white shoes..you turn your head to get a breath, but all that’s out there is the stench of the stool on your new 25.00 uniform top.

You get the picture huh ?

Equal to the lady who cursed is this. As you are setting down your new Below The Knee Amp on the commode, they are letting loose of the worst gas you have ever smelled in your life.

The patient says, oops, sorry about that, but you must be used to that aren’t you ?

The passenger next seat over drops her mothers’
overnight bag on your head then curses you out.
About this time,I look out the window of the hospital,a magic slide appears, and out I go clutching my Dr.Pepper.

Dear god you fools…don’t fire steve..promote him to employee of the year. He woke the nation. Now you will get more business,we’re awake..well not me..I’m afraid to fly.
