How Teen Mom Amber Portwood Lost 65 Pounds
Sixteen and Pregnant turned Teen Mom star Amber Portwood has struggled with weight her entirely life. But, the now 20-year-old recently shed her baby weight–and then some–and dished on how she did it.
Portwood, who gave birth to daughter Leah (with 23-year-old boyfriend Gary Shirley) in November 2008, told Usmagazine.com she’s been “chunky my whole life.” But something changed when she looked in the mirror sometime after giving birth to her daughter, and she decided to lose the weight once and for all.
“I was looking in the mirror and I thought, I don’t like this,” she said. “I’m only 20. I need to kick it into gear.” And that’s exactly what she did. The reality star gave up things like mac and cheese and sweets, and substituted them for fruits, veggies, and lean meat instead. Plus, she’s devoted a pretty significant amount of time to exercise–two-hour cardio and strength sessions four times a week. She’s even taken up martial arts (Krav Maga!) and will be competing in the sport soon.
Not only is this young mom super excited about her new body (“The first time I tried on jeans after I lost weight, they were a size one. This is crazy!”), her baby daddy Shirley doesn’t mind it either, according to Portwood.
But the biggest take-away for Portwood, who is now 118 pounds at 5-feet-4 inches: “I’m more comfortable in my skin,” she said.

I need to loose at least 20 pounds and its soooo hard. Amber, you are an inspiration to mothers everywhere any age. Stay strong for your booboo and keep up the great work!

How did you do it girl???Any advise, tips, anything please tell. I want to get my pre-baby body back i get really sad about not being able to lose this weight. EMG commented on Sep 15 10 at 11:01 amI just watched last night’s episode and this girl is not ready to be a mother yet. I feel terrible for her little daughter. She’s 1 year-old and pretty much all she hears is bitching and whining from her mom all day long. That being said, she looks better.

Teens will have kids neglect them and abusive their partners because this girl is getting away with it. What kind of message is MTV sending to America that its ok to get pregnact and dropp out because if you don’t get on welfare you might land a contract with a reality tv show and become famous over night. They shouldn’t support her weightloss they should take that baby away from her and put her in counseling and in angry management classes. POOR Gary and POOR baby the whole time the show is going on all u hear and see is Amber being an unfit abusive mother and girlfrriend. What gives her the right to neglect and ignore the little girl. All I see is that little girl taking care of herslef while AMBER sleeps lays on the bed sits on the sofa of BITCHES at Gary. Why doesn’t she clean is she WHITE TRASH or what is wrong with her. I hope she sees the epesiodes and see what a MONSTER she is. MTV shouldn’t pay her a DIME for sending teens a wrong message GOD Help us all especially her…..

I totally agree with Alice F. every time they show Amber she is laying around yelling at Leah or Gary. What the heck, Gary needs to turn her happy butt in for domestic violence and child neglect. I am sorry but there is something wrong with that girl and Leah is in danger living with her.
