It’s no secret that Gisele Bundchen has strong opinions about pregnancy and motherhood. She definitely takes the, “it’s my way or the highway approach” with all things baby related.  Or at least that’s the impression she gave when she accused most women of turning into garbage disposals and letting themselves go while they are pregnant, leading us to believe that if we laid off the Ho-Hos, we’d look like she did post-baby.

Well, apparently there is something way more appalling to Gisele than eating a Ho-Ho. Because she’s absolutely horrified that some women in America don’t breastfeed their babies.  She said that when mothers do not breastfeed, she thinks, “Are you going to give chemical food to your child when they’re so little?”

She’s so disgusted, in fact, that she thinks there should be a worldwide law requiring mothers to breastfeed their babies for at least six months.

Yes, you heard me right.  Basically, Gisele is implying that it should be illegal to give your child formula.

I hate to break it to Miss Gisele, but I just don’t think that the police force in this country is equipped to write hundreds of thousands of tickets to women who are caught offering their kids a bottle.

And what about the moms who serve their tots the pre-made stuff right out of the metal can? Should there be an additional fine for that one?

I think that Gisele needs a serious reality check.  How about you?

Umm.. yeah she is a little unrealistic. I did breastfeed my daughter but also used formula. She could only get milk when I breastfeed and couldn’t get anything when I pumped so when I went back to work I had to do formula while I was working… Some mom’s can’t breastfeed all the time!

Breastfeeding is and should be a personal choice. In my opinion it’s a good choice, but to each their own. What a can of worms that would open! Do you think she enjoys being able to choose what she and her family eats? Why take that away from other people? And OMG- no wonder people think Americans are pompous idiots! A WORLD LAW???? Seriously? Like the first big world law is gonna be about breastfeeding?

Hey Gisele, thanks for confirming the theory that models are dumb. First of all, for som women, breastfeeding is not possible for a variety of reasons. So thanks for making those who want to but can’t feel that much worse.
As someone who personally makes no apology for choosing to bottlefeed when my son was an infant, I can say he’s now 5 and he’s perfectly FINE.

You said it…she needs a serious reality check! I believe in breastfeeding but I also believe in freedom of choice. Some women just can’t make enough milk for their baby and others have children with major relux (like I did) so it was very hard for me to last 2 months. I guess if all I had to worry about is breastfeeding my baby then maybe it would be OK, if only we all had someone to cook, clean and wipe our ass like Gisele does.

I do agree that her position is extreme. I also believe, though, that as parents, we don’t do enough to give our kids the very best. Including myself. I believe there is nothing better than breast milk. Period.

Great comments, ladies! I truly believe that every woman should do what she feels is best for herself and her baby, and should not pass judgment on others. Gisele shouldn’t assume that what is right for her is also right for everyone else!

Its true many moms don’t BF because it is inconvenient for them, and they would rather just do what is easy rather than what is best for baby. But seriously, a law? Please. The last thing we need is more laws! And there are legitimate reasons not to BF. Of course a woman should give it her best shot, but like I said it isn’t always possible. Gisele needs to calm down about all that law junk.

What an ignorant stupid woman – I am betting my husband right now that she will need to apologize for the uproar this ridiculous statement will cause. Gisele – moron model – not all moms can breastfeed despite trying to the point of insanity. Go back to Brazil and vow to never give another interview again – NOBODY wants to hear from you.

I think Gisele is lucky to never have been in a situation where breastfeeding was impossible physically, or at the detriment of the mother. If I had obsessed over making sure my son was breastfed when I was in the ICU at the hospital a week post birth all hopped up on morphine I might have had my priorities a little out of whack. Sure, in an ideal world, all women would be able to, comfortable with, or in a position to breastfeed for six months, (thankfully I was once with my oldest) but guess what? Life is life and I am over the point in my life where I want to point fingers at another mother, trying the best she can and say “She’s bad because she didn’t do it perfect.”

My boy is 12 and I still can’t get him off the tit. I wish i’d never started that darn tit milk. I feel like the lifestock back yander.

Well, like all things, moms are taking this issue very personally. But if you look at the facts (evidence and history suggest that formula feeding is quite risky), it’s in the best interest of the vast majority of infants that breastfeeding be mandatory. It can’t be for all kinds of reasons … but I can see where Gisele is coming from. Can we give her some slack? We’ve all done this to some extent as mothers of only one kid, so if we don’t want to feel her judgement, we have to stop judging her.

I suppose we COULD cut her some slack but when you go around waving your celebrity finger, people will call you on your bull. Every woman in the world can’t breastfeed, so making it law is unrealistic. Every woman in the world doesn’t WANT to breastfeed, and we have an acceptable substitute. My mother’s OB used to say “I have 11 kids. Some were breastfed, some were not. Some were spanked, some were not. Some were circumcised, some were not. You would never be able to tell which is which.”
