But for Wahlberg, it wasn’t just about himself–the actor made it about his family, as well.

Wahlberg brought along his wife, model Rhea Durham, and his four kids–Ella Rae, Grace Margaret, Brendan Joseph and Michael–with him to the ceremony, taking proud photos with all of them at the spot of his star. “I’m so happy my kids are sitting through this,” the actor said, according to BBC. “When I heard I was getting this star, I felt like it was a practical joke.”

The humility and stress of family importance may come from the actor’s own upbringings. “I’m the youngest of nine, so the more the merrier,” Wahlberg once told Ellen Degeneres on her talk show. One thing is for sure: It’s highly likely he will pass his modest attitude and love for family onto his kids.

Wahlberg will be starring in the film, The Other Guys, with Will Ferrell, coming out on August 6.
