Six Reasons Why Teresa Giudice’s Bankruptcy Situation Is Appalling
As everyone who follows reality tv knows, Teresa Giudice of the Real Housewives of New Jersey and her husband have filed for bankruptcy. I realize there are legitimate cases when families have no choice but to declare bankruptcy: unforeseen catastrophes, debilitating illness or any other number of reasons why our society allows its citizens to legally declare bankruptcy and wipe the slate clean. This is not one of those cases. Here is why I — and every single American — should be appalled at the Giudice bankruptcy situation:
1) Bankruptcy’s intended purpose is as follows: It “gives to the honest but unfortunate debtor…a new opportunity in life and a clear field for future effort, unhampered by the pressure and discouragement of preexisting debt.” Note here the “honest” part. It doesn’t say anything about giving a second chance to vile fame-seekers who flaunt their vapid, conspicuous consumption on national television and purposely buy things they can’t afford.
2) They knowingly lived beyond their means. They bought a $1.7 million mansion they KNEW — or should have known — they could absolutely not afford. But, as Teresa herself said, she’s too good to live in an apartment. Sweetheart, you are millions of dollars in debt: you’d be lucky to live in an apartment. You are lucky you didn’t spend your family into homelessness although that could be down the road. And their car payment? Over $1200 per month for a Cadillac Escalade. Which, again, they couldn’t afford. But she felt wealthy driving it and that’s what counts, right? They state their monthly income as $16,583.33. That’s not enough to live in a nearly $2 million home and have a $1200 car payment plus all the trapping of a rich, public persona. Did they do the math? But of course, some suspect they have more money than that and just don’t want to pay their debts.
3) There is no remorse, no lessons learned, no toned down spending. She is still flaunting their faux lifestyle in a ridiculous charade. Expect these tacky, jewel-flashing morons to file again in another five years or so when they rack up another few millions in debt. At our expense.
4) There are real people, real businesses getting screwed here in the process — because they won’t get paid. The Giudice’s are being let off the hook and won’t have to pay for products purchased and services rendered from legitimate business people who had faith they’d be paid. The couple owes more than $33,000 on various store credit cards, $85,000 for home repairs and $91,000 for materials used to build their new home as well as millions in other debts. What about the hard workers who performed the repairs? Tough luck, I guess, Teresa needed to drive a fancy car to keep up with the Joneses. Or Manzos.
5) These people’s irresponsible actions affect all of us: Losers not paying their bills contributes to higher prices and interest rates for all of us — each of us are carrying deadbeats like the Giudices’s on our backs. You know what they probably think of those of us who live within our means? Suckers!
6) They are raising children who will have no example of fiscal responsiblity, so they too can go out into the world and be a drain on society. And make no mistake — that’s what these people are. They think they can buy whatever they want and worry about paying for it later. Or never as the case may be.
Do I sound mad? I am. And you should be too.

Jen Miller commented on Jul 23 10 at 5:56 pmI totally agree. These people are low class, uneducated wanabees who live way above their means. Teresa is delusional, her husband is a panzy, and her kids are spoiled brats. People like these are parasites who just take and contibute nothing to the wellbeing of society. They give capitalism a bad name.
Jason Keller commented on Jul 23 10 at 9:03 pmThe trustee from the bankruptcy court hired AJ Willner Auctions to sell off her furniture and jewelry. They have all the pictures of her furniture on their web page. Apparently this is the same company that auctioned off Whitney Houston’s stuff a few years back when she couldn’t pay her storage bills.
Curious commented on Jul 23 10 at 9:54 pmWhen and where will the auction of their property be?

Freda lee commented on Jul 24 10 at 2:15 pmI live in nj and will pick up their property tax debt. How can these people have the stupid fans that they do? It’s crazy! I will never watch the show again!!!!!
JanieG commented on Jul 24 10 at 8:50 pmThank you Kelly for posting the link. I have just laughed myself into an asthma attack. A suit of armor? Where do they sell this crap, at the Ye Olde House ‘o Crap? I wonder which one of the geniuses in the household plays chess? It warms my heart to imagine the whole clan gathered around the piano singing Christmas carols. Seriously, I’m wetting myself.
tiny alice commented on Jul 24 10 at 10:31 pmWhat makes this even more infuriating is that Teresa herself has spoken of getting to “start over with a clean slate,” as if she deserved this. She and her husband are vile, reprehensible liars, and Bravo TV is equally at fault for promoting their famewhoredom. It’s sickening to see them when real people are suffering in this terrible economy. It just enrages me that they’re going to get away with all of it, leaving everyone else holding the bag. I was starting to get sick of this show, and now will never watch it, or the new installment on the D.C. “wives,” either. I aspire to living a good and kind life, not living like a faux Marie Antoinette in that stupid hideous trashy marble mansion.

Glenda commented on Jul 29 10 at 3:59 amJust looked at the auction list expecting to find a lot of high quality antique style furniture and such and what is listed is a whole lot of faux marble, faux leather, paintings by unknown artists and even a rug from Home Trends which can be found at Walmart. Theresa is obviously all about appearances, she lived in a mansion full of faux crap!
Cynthia commented on Jul 31 10 at 3:49 pmI guess Teresa couldn’t control her spending habit. Now she is being forced to control it. I quess she wanted the public to think she is rich. Not true. Just to think she was blaming the economy for her bad spending habits.
ladyblahblah commented on Aug 01 10 at 1:26 pmShe brought all of those kids into the world and brings them on her reckless spending sprees. How will a reversal of fortune effect them? She is such a wonderful old fashioned Italian mama – NOT.
Sara commented on Dec 18 11 at 1:57 amThese disgusting classless jump offs give financially & morally responsible Italians a bad name. Bravo needs to get rid of these disgusting reality shows from The KK Klan to Housewives & Jersey Shore morons. Boycott all of them
None of them have talent & their salaries are ill gained.
